Faculty Spotlight: Ivan Freaner
Ivan Freaner is a design professional, consultant and educator at New York University. With over a decade of experience he has created outstanding designs that have brought remarkable solutions for a broad base of clients, such as Nordstroms, VIVRE NYC, PETCO, NFL, Fujitsu, Motorola, Oracle, City of San Diego and UCSD among many others. Tip of the Month from Ivan: To get rough edges on objects in Illustrator, simply pick a rough brush, like the "chalk" brush under "artistic" brushes. Then, using your brush tool, simply paint along the edge of an object - this can be a shape or even a letter. Once you finish painting, select the outlines of the painted strokes and under Object select Expand Appearance. Now all you need to do, using your Pathfinder tools, is to simply subtract the brush strokes through the object - and voila! You have rough edges.
