For six years they knew him as a blind boy
On September 1st, 2008, the first day of class at De Stip School, in Aalst, Belgium - something was noticeably different about fourth-grader Yannick Duwe - he could see. Since birth, Yannick suffered from Leber Congenital Amaurosis (LCA), a rare retinal disorder. At most, he could only detect light or hand movements in front of the eye. Recruiting Begins for National Children’s Study
Starting April 22nd, researchers from The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia will be going door to door in eligible neighborhoods in Montgomery County to determine if the women living there are pregnant or planning to become pregnant in the coming year and willing to participate in the National Children's Study. Researchers Find More Risks in Newborns with Jaundice
The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia recently conducted a study that showed jaundice assessment, yellowish skin tones examined in newborn babies, as a predictor of significant hyperbilirubinemia risk. Performed in the Well Baby Nursery of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, nurses used a five-point scale to grade the farthest extent of jaundice along the newborn's body. Read More »
