Why do you love AlterNet?
rule

Dear Criss

Our readers have been amazing! You are generously supporting AlterNet financially in tough times and sending us your love in six words… and it's only been five days.

We're rolling along and are 1/3 of our way to our goal of $40,000 by April 10. If you were planning to donate and/or send us your six words of love and support and just needed a little reminder, click here.

Haven't heard about our super duper contest yet?  We're challenging you to tell us in six words what AlterNet means to YOU. And we're giving $100 to the three of you who say it best.

Hundreds of you have already sent in your six words. Here's what a few readers have told us so far:
  • Betty Ann from MI: With AlterNet I have gained power.
  • Marian from GA: So I know I'm not crazy.
  • Ann from CA: AlterNet puts tooth in the truth!
  • David from RI: You cover stories mainstream won't: THANKS!
  • Heather from CA: AlterNet makes sense out of madness.
That's right. AlterNet is digging deep and is required reading for those want to know how to interpret the 24/7 news cycle of spin -- like the junk offered by the discredited business magazines, and the cable news hypers including CNBC, Fox News, and even CNN.

If you value what we do, can you help us out? Reader support is vital to AlterNet's success. We couldn't do it without you.

Your words give us strength and hope to move forward. Our whole staff feels uplifted by the quality and inspiration of your six-word offerings.

Why are we doing this work? Because we are all in this together. Yes, we have a new era with Barack Obama, and there is much to be thankful for, but jeez, there is plenty to be angry and distressed about too.

With you, we will be organizing for health care -- and at a minimum a Medicare for All option so that there will be competition. We will be standing against the expansion of American empire in Afghanistan. We don't care what the so-called "hard nosed" liberals think. They are wrong and escalation in Afghanistan is a mistake. And we will be fighting the failed, so called "drug war" and the flood of AK-47s streaming from U.S. gun dealers to the drug cartels in Mexico, undermining its government and taking thousands of lives.

And most of all, we will be working to take care of our friends and families who have lost their jobs, or their houses, and might be working overtime just to make ends meet. The AlterNet staff and family is motivated by your support for us to be the best we can. We appreciate your confidence!

Support AlterNet now so we can bring you the news, the exposés, the smartest opinions, and the sense of connection we need to deal with a world gone off-kilter. That's our job.
