  from Jacci Howard Bear
Had an email exchange with a reader last week. The first part is posted below -- questions about portfolios and resumes. Next week I'll post the results of our exchange which involved issues with tailoring portfolios to different clients/employers.

We've got some Makeovers for critique in the forum. As I write down below (Top Picks section), "critiquing the makeovers of others also helps improve your own skills." Critical analysis of the work of others can help you develop a better eye for what does and doesn't work in your own designs. So jump in and tell us what you think.

Putting Yourself on Display in a Portfolio
Is it a good idea to have a your picture in your portfolio (for face recognition)? What about putting your name on the outside of the portfolio case? And what do you do with 2-page resumes inside your portfolio. I answer all three of these questions submitted by a reader. Do you agree or disagree with my answers. Let's hear your opinion!

1) Poetry Book Jacket Makeover by faviog84
Phoenix responds to this makeover writing, "...that's an unusual colour choice (ie not the standard choices) and a good one to stand out on the shelf. I like your strong bold font choice and restraint with your choice and typographic layout." See what others said and add your own critique.

2) Poetry Book Jacket Makeover by pearl.perfection
"Reguardless of whether I like them or not, the colours you chose make me think of history, and, since the name is "My life is a poem", I feel they're appropriate," writes Trinity about this submission. She has more to say as well. Read this critique and add your own thoughts about this makeover.

3) Music CD Sleeve Makeover by faviog84
"I would appreciate some constructive criticism. Thank you." OK folks, let's hear what you think about these submissions for the CD project. I did stop in for a quick note. I wrote, "I'm liking those particular image choices and the way you've "echoed" them on the page." How 'bout you? What do you like or not like about this makeover.
