I was explaining to a patient this week that treating a rash usually boils down to deciding if it needs to be treated with an antibiotic, antifungal, or topical steroid. The majority of rashes I see fall into the last category, but sometimes when people hear "steroid" they get scared.
Unfortunately, I see many people who've been prescribed the wrong strength steroid for a rash. Either they use a steroid on their face that's too strong, or they use one on the body that's too weak.
Are topical steroids really worth it? And if they are (spoiler alert - I think they are), how do you make sure you're using them correctly? This week we'll look at topical steroids and some of the common rashes we treat with steroids.
