GOOGLE ADOPTS MICROSOFT SYNC PROTOCOL
Google has licensed Microsoft's Exchange ActiveSync protocol for sharing
data between servers and mobile devices. The resulting "GoogleSync"
service allows synchronizing contacts and calendar information between
Google servers, Windows Mobile devices, Apple's iPhone, and many other
smartphones, Google says.

ACER SPINS "SECOND GENERATION" NETBOOK
Acer has announced a "second generation" version of its hot-selling
netbook, the Aspire One. The "Aspire One AOD150" includes a 10.1-inch
display, 160GB hard disk drive, a six-cell battery, and the Windows XP
Home operating system, according to the company.

ACER SMARTPHONE RUNS WINDOWS MOBILE
Acer's first smartphone has been outed in advance of the Mobile World
Congress (MWC) by a UK reseller. As we expected, the Acer DX900 runs
Windows Mobile, and features dual SIMs, a VGA-resolution screen, video
output, dual cameras, WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS.

WINDOWS E-READER SPORTS COLOR DISPLAY
Fujitsu is showing off an electronic book reader that works in color,
yet features power efficiency similar to Amazon's just-released Kindle
2. Planned in models with eight- and 12-inch displays, the "Flepia"
displays up to 4,096 colors, and runs Windows CE 5.0.

KOREAN PMP RUNS WINDOWS CE
Korean firm Asia Pacific System Incorporated (APSI) announced a PMP
(personal media player) that runs Windows CE 5.0 on an ARM11 CPU. The
"M-480" includes a 4.8-inch touchscreen display, hard disk storage, a
DMB (digital multimedia broadcasting) TV receiver, and an optional GPS
cradle.

WINDOWS PHONES MANAGE NETFLIX VIDEO
Microsoft has released a free Windows Mobile application for users of
Netflix's online video streaming service. The "Mobile Manager for
Netflix" lets users manage their instant streaming and DVD queues using
a smartphone, and also permits viewing trailers, the company says.

SMARTPHONES STRONG, DESPITE RECESSION
The smartphone market will slow to a 13 percent growth rate in 2009, but
will rebound in 2010, projects Forward Concepts. With a current market
share of 14 percent, Windows Mobile is ahead of RIM, Linux, and Apple's
OS X, the firm's recent study adds.

VIRTUALIZED WINDOWS DESKTOPS "RUN ANYWHERE"
Citrix announced a new version of its software for delivering
virtualized Windows desktops to thin clients. XenDesktop version 3 now
allows desktops to be run remotely or locally, supports twice as many
desktops per server, and includes "HDX MediaStream" technology for
multimedia acceleration, the company says.

WINDOWS CE BSP DELIVERS DM355 MULTIMEDIA
MPC Data announced a Windows CE 6.0 BSP (board support package) for the
Texas Instruments TMS320DM355 SoC (system-on-chip). The BSP supports
both the SoC and a related DVEVM (digital video evaluation module),
targeting low-cost portable, digital video devices with HD video
capability, the company says.

TECHED 2009 "PRECONS" DIVE INTO MICROSOFT'S EMBEDDED OSES
Microsoft will hold three seminars for experienced embedded developers
prior to its annual TechEd North America 2009 conference. Focused

Embedded Standard (WES), the day-long pre-conference seminars
