Downtown OKC locales a boon for some, a bust for others
Downtown Oklahoma City has been great for some retailers and not so good for others. Several businesses have been downtown for decades, and several more have opened in the past year, but this week downtown will see two retailers close their doors.
SemGroup LP reorganization focused on staying in Tulsa
Greek entrepreneur John A. Catsimatidis launched a reorganization plan Monday for SemGroup LP, intent on keeping the embattled energy industry supplier based in Tulsa. Chairman of the private New York firm Red Apple Group, his $2.15 billion net worth ranking him as the nation's 215th-richest man according to Forbes magazine, Catsimatidis has obtained five of the nine seats on SemGroup GP's management committee, the equivalent to the LP's board of directors.

Sonic plans value menu
Sonic Corp. plans to introduce a value menu at the end of December, with a handful of food items for about $1, citing tough economic times for consumers. Paul Macaluso, vice president of marketing at Sonic, said the company will offer a value menu with about eight to 10 items for those watching their pocketbooks.

Dallas law firm merges with Conner & Winters
The seven-attorney Dallas law firm of Sessions Lambert Selwyn is joining with Tulsa-based Conner & Winters, a move which, along with other additions, increases the Tulsa-based firm to more than 100 attorneys. Sessions Lambert Selwyn is known for its litigation and employee benefits expertise.

Lawmaker: Bill would ‘level playing field' for retailers
State Rep. David Dank, R-Oklahoma City, said he just wants to make things fair. "This is to level the playing field between tribal and nontribal retailers," said Dank regarding House Bill 1002, the Fair Competition Act. The measure would exempt businesses within 25 miles of Indian country from collecting sales tax, if a neighbor tribal business sells the same kind of products or services.
