Software Development :: Libraries :: Tcl Extensions

About: eTcl is a "batteries-included" thread-enabled Tcl/Tk runtime
available as a single standalone executable. It includes several popular
extensions (Thread, Sqlite, Zlib, etc.), together with a Tcl wrapper for
the Pixane image processing library.

Changes: This release fixes an annoying bug introduced in 1.0-rc30 causing
the Odyce symbol resolver to fail on Win32. Extensions kits (tcllib, tklib,
and bwidgets) have been restored in the installer. On Mac OS X, a bad issue
causing the console to be shown even if running a wrapped application in
non-interactive mode has been fixed. The Tcl code compacter in the wrap

[014] - Expect-lite 3.1.5
by Craig Miller (http://freshmeat.net/users/cvmiller/)
Wed, Dec 3rd 2008 12:32

Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: Expect-lite is a wrapper for expect, created to make expect
programming even easier. The wrapper permits the creation of expect script
command files by using special character(s) at the beginning of each line
to indicate the expect-lite action. Basic expect-lite scripts can be
created by simply cutting and pasting text from a terminal window into a
script, and adding '>' '

Changes: This version adds two new features. Based on a user request, User
Defined Prompts have been added. This allows the setting of the prompt via
a line. Expect-lite has always cooperated well with the bash shell. Now,
via a five-line embedded bash script at the top of the expect-lite script,
it can become executable with default arguments, and can even take
GNU-style long option arguments.

Wed, Dec 3rd 2008 12:05

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Raster-Based
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: Fotoxx is a program for improving digital photos. Navigate large
image collections using a pageable window of thumbnails. Create HDR (high
dynamic range) images by combining bright and dark images to improve detail
in both bright and dark areas. Create panoramas by joining overlapped
images. Adjust brightness and color intensity independently for different
underlying brightness levels. Rotate an image (level a tilted image or turn
90 degrees). Remove red eyes from electronic flash photos. Sharpen, resize,
crop, reduce noise, and change color depth. Warp an image by dragging the
mouse. Edit tags/keywords and search images by date or tags.

Changes: The selected area can be inverted so that subsequent edits modify
all but the selected area. "Star" ratings can be assigned to images and you
can search for images by star rating. The translation system was converted
to use GNU gettext. The user guide was reorganized into a quick guide
followed by the large document. A bug in the color-intensity function was
corrected. A problem with slow mouse tracking (low graphics performance)
was fixed.

by Michael Simms (http://freshmeat.net/users/lgpmichael/)
Wed, Dec 3rd 2008 21:16

Communications
Internet
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Grapple is designed to be a simple network layer, allowing the
addition of multiuser features to an application for as little as a dozen
lines of code. However, it also allows for more. It features simple
client-server networking that keeps all clients aware of all other clients,
passworded servers, and data transfer via TCP, UDP, or reliable UDP.
Advanced features include network messaging via push, pull, or a
combination, multiple methods of querying users, user groups for client
bandwidth saving, network load reacting data transmission and
retransmission, background pinging to monitor network states, server
failover, and a fully functional lobby system.

Changes: The large enhancements in this release are the final completion
of the much delayed encryption system for TCP sessions and the enhancement
of the callback system to enable multiple callback threads to be running
simultaneously, allowing more complex systems to be built if desired. Minor
improvements are encryption certificate inspection, the ability to encrypt
a lobby, and the addition of connection callbacks to the lobby.

Wed, Dec 3rd 2008 12:34

Multimedia :: Video :: Capture
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Hardware

About: libv4l is a collection of libraries that adds a thin abstraction
layer on top of video4linux2 (V4L2) devices. The purpose of this layer is
to make it easy for application writers to support a wide variety of
devices without having to write separate code for different devices in the
same class. It consists of 3 different libraries. libv4lconvert offers
functions to convert from any (known) pixel format to V4l2_PIX_FMT_BGR24 or
V4l2_PIX_FMT_YUV420. libv4l1 offers the (deprecated) v4l1 API on top of
v4l2 devices, independent of the drivers for those devices supporting v4l1
compatibility (which many v4l2 drivers do not). libv4l2 offers the v4l2 API
on top of v4l2 devices, while adding for the application transparent
libv4lconvert conversion where necessary.

Changes: A nasty bug in the special try_fmt handling for UVC webcams was
fixed. Upgrading is therefore recommended. Debug logging was enhanced.

About: Music Player Daemon (MPD) is a server that allows remote access for
playing music in various formats and managing playlists. It makes a great
desktop player with frontend options (Qt, GTK, ncurses, Windows, and Web
clients are available). It is also appropriate as a console player that is
scriptable, and is especially useful if X is restarted frequently. A set of
rapid development tools for clients are being developed and include a C
library, Python module, PHP class, Perl module, and Java Class. The goals
are to be easy to install and use, to have minimal resource requirements,
to be stable and flexible, and easy to interface.

Changes: This includes more use of Glib to remove duplicated
functionality. The old ALSA buffer_time is used to prevent distortion.
Functionality was added to control how symlinks are treated (this fixes a
regression). Fixes were made for more Internet streams. Other bugs were

[030] - Netty 3.1.0.ALPHA2
by Trustin Lee (http://freshmeat.net/users/anoripi/)
Wed, Dec 3rd 2008 12:31

Communications
Internet
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: The Netty project is an effort to provide an asynchronous,
event-driven network application framework and tools for rapid development
of maintainable, high-performance, high-scalability protocol servers and
clients. In other words, Netty is a NIO client server framework that
enables quick and easy development of network applications such as protocol
servers and clients. It simplifies and streamlines network programming such
as TCP/IP socket servers.

Changes: Write buffer overflow prevention was made more robust and
configurable. ChannelHandler can now be notified when it's added to or
removed from a ChannelPipeline. ChannelGroup has been added to simplify a
bulk operation on multiple Channels.

[031] - Pantheios 1.0.1 beta 174
by Dr Proctor (http://freshmeat.net/users/DrProctor/)
Wed, Dec 3rd 2008 12:07

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Logging

About: Pantheios is a C/C++ logging API library. It offers an optimal
combination of complete type-safety, very high efficiency, genericity, and
extensibility. It is simple to use and extend, highly portable (platform
and compiler independent), and it upholds the C tradition of only paying
for what you use. Pantheios supports logging of message statements of
arbitrary complexity, consisting of heterogenous types. Pantheios supports
filtering of log messages based on severity level.

Changes: This release fixes a defect whereby logputs() was not subject to
severity filtering. The core/back-end dispatching was refactored so that
logputs() calls go directly to the back-end. Three new test projects were
added. Some previously deprecated files were removed.

[040] - TRIXER 0.14
by Marco Caminati (http://freshmeat.net/users/caminati/)
Wed, Dec 3rd 2008 21:16

System :: Archiving :: Mirroring

About: TRIXER creates catalogs of transparent file indexes. A transparent
file index is an exact mirror of a directory, except that each of its file
is void, thus "taking no space", while apparently having the same size of
its indexed counterpart so as to describe it fully. This is accomplished by
combining sparse files support with fusecompress on-the-fly compression
technology. This is useful for many purposes, e.g. creating a catalog of
your CD/DVD-ROM library to browse its contents without having to
physically access it. The advantage of this software is that a TRIXER
catalog is a plain mountable ext2 filesystem, allowing enhanced
interoperability with the huge lot of available software to handle the
catalog in a number of ways.

Changes: This release has been upgraded to FuseCompress 2.2, thus
eliminating a major bug regarding corrupted catalogs, which after some
testing seems gone. It adds handling of multiple mountings via a rough
database. It fixes a minor bug preventing the creation of a catalog inside
the index node itself.

[041] - UMLGraph 5.2
by Diomidis Spinellis (http://freshmeat.net/users/diomidis/)
Wed, Dec 3rd 2008 15:10

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Software Development :: Documentation

About: UMLGraph facilitates the declarative specification and drawing of
UML class and sequence diagrams. One can specify a class design using the
Java syntax complemented by Javadoc tags. Running the UmlGraph doclet on
the specification generates a Graphviz diagram specification that can be
automatically processed to create Postscript, GIF, SVG, JPEG, fig, or
Framemaker drawings. Similarly, sequence diagrams are specified using
declarative pic macros and compiled with the GNU plotutils pic2plot program
into a PNG, PNM, (pseudo) GIF, SVG, AI, Postscript, CGM, FIG, PCL, HPGL,
Regis, or TEK drawing.

Changes: This version corrects an exception when a dependency to an
unknown class is specified. It also fixes a NullPointerException that
occurred when no global options are available. It also corrects the case of
the tools.jar filename in the umlgraph shell script.

[042] - VNCTracker 3.2
by irieiam (http://freshmeat.net/users/irieiam/)
Wed, Dec 3rd 2008 21:15

System :: Systems Administration

About: VNCTracker keeps a list of hosts on various Internet accounts.
Rather than email or phone each user whenever you need a current IP address
for connecting with VNC, you visit the Web page generated by VNCTracker
that shows the updated IP address for that host. It will then build .vnc
files to easily start VNC sessions served via HTTP. It supports 'Request
Reverse VNC Session' to help with proxies and satellite connections.

Changes: Many bug fixes. 'Request VNC' has been added to work with
satellite and other one-way connections. This requires the remote PC to
check your vnctracker server for a hostname.request file containing the IP
to connect to. That initiates the reverse connection. The listening viewer
(the requester) needs to have any NAT/gateway/firewall forward TCP 5500 to
the listening machine.
