Crisis Hits the Business Schools Applications for MBA programs are up, but job opportunities for second-year students in finance or consulting have turned wretched The Millennials Invade the B-Schools They're pursuing MBAs to change the world, but first they're forcing business schools to make changes in order to accommodate them International B-Schools Have Unique Appeal Non-U.S. B-schools differentiate themselves by offering greater intimacy, more humanities, and accelerated programs The Best U.S. Business Schools Responsiveness to the community's needs, academic rigor, relationships with top recruiters, and dedication to excellence are among the qualities necessary for a business school to be considered one of the best The Best International Business Schools In an increasingly global market, business leaders must live, work, and think beyond their home country Getting into B-School: Dinged Left and Right From: koobie17 To: ALL I know I am not the IDEAL candidate for the MBA program but I got my first ding from Chicago today and most likely will receive another one tomorrow from Wharton.------------ From: bs09 To: mbaiguess I believe a HUGE part of it is essays. It's imperative to be absolutely honest, clear and express why you want to do what you want to do which is much more important than what. Show them a real side of yourselves - they just want to get to know you and make sure you want the MBA from whichever school to apply to. And also a huge thing is to show leadership - show your mindset, how you lead and what kind of potential you have. Also don't be afraid to openly talk about where you have failed because failures are in some cases more important than actual accomplishments because they can change you as a person. Bschools just want people who are driven, motivated and will make their school look good.------------ From: svelasquez To: koobie17 koobie,---------------------------------------------------------- Getting into B-School: Consortium Application From:Amfia To: All Hello All,------------ From: PDrama To: Amfia The 2009 Consortium thread is here: http://forums.businessweek.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?tsn=170&nav=messages&webtag=bw-bschools&tid=76738 View over 4,500 blogs in our MBA Blogs community today! Here's an excerpt: Tips to Prepare Yourself for MBA Exam By carlhopper Comments: 0 Stars: 0FOR THE FULL VERSION Admissions directors offer their advice ------------------------------------------- There are tell-tale indicators that an applicant may be ill-prepared to participate in an MBA program: 1) lack of full-time, professional, post-bachelor work experience, 2) statement of career objectives is vague and lacks a balance of personal and professional experience, and 3) (this is the biggest pitfall) if a parent or spouse calls regarding a child or spouse's application. --Reena Lichtenfeld, University of South Carolina (Darla Moore) Typically this is reflected in the essays -- the applicant's career goals are unrealistic, their expectation of what the MBA can do for them is unrealistic, and/or their understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, compared with other applicants, is unrealistic. The letters of recommendation and the interview are also areas where we probe for maturity, interpersonal skills, and preparedness. --Laura Parks, University of Florida We require four essays and the fifth is optional. We examine the essays to look for maturity and preparedness for the MBA education. In addition, during the admissions interview, we will get a even more complete picture of the candidate to find out if he/she is too young or not yet ready for B-school. --Connie Tae, Erasmus University (Rotterdam School of Management)
