Oklahoma's senior U.S. senator, Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., is projected to have won re-election to his third full term Tuesday. As of late Tuesday evening, he was leading challenger state Sen. Andrew Rice, D-Oklahoma City, by 54
percent to 41 percent. Indications from unofficial national returns are that Inhofe will have to work within a Democrat-ruled Senate.
A former mayor of Tulsa, Inhofe served in the U.S. House since 1986. He was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1994, completing the unexpired term of David Boren, who resigned to become president of the University of Oklahoma.
