Friday, November 14, 7 PM: Other Voices Women's Reading Series. This month's featured reader is Ann Wright author of Dissent: Voices of Conscience (Koa Books, $17.95).  During Dissentthe buildup to war in Iraq, Army Colonel (Ret.) and diplomat Ann Wright resigned her State Department post.  She was one among dozens of government insiders and active-duty military personnel who spoke out, resigned, or refused to deploy in protest of government actions they felt were illegal.  In this important book, Ann Wright and co-author Susan Dixon tell the stories of these men and women who risked careers, reputations, and even freedom out of loyalty to the Constitution and the rule of law.

Wednesday, November 19, 7 PM: Flavors Without Borders/ Sabores Sin Fronteras. Join us for a gala reading about local food, water, and ranching by four renowned writers!
 
*  Gary Nabhan, Tucson's well-known nature writer, ethnobotanist and social scientist will discuss his newest book, Where Our Food Comes From (Island Press, $24.95).
Raising Steaks
*  Betty Fussell, celebrated food writer for the New York Times & The New Yorker and author of eleven books on food, will discuss her newest: Raising Steaks: The Life and Times of American Beef (Harcourt, $26.00).

Friday, November 21, 7 PM: Lori Girshick, author of Transgender VoicesTransgender Voices: Beyond Women and Men (Univ. Press of New England, $26.00).  Lori Girshick's helpful, provocative book is a real contribution to the science and sociology of transgender people.  Her many luminous interviews allow trans people to speak for themselves; her uncanny and cutting-edge criticism provides both the theory and the compassion in order to further illuminate these voices. Transgender Voices speaks with wisdom, complexity, and insight on a topic key to our understanding of the spectrum of gender diversity.

Friday, December 5, 7 PM: Other Voices Women's Reading Series. This month's featured reader is Judith Barrington. microphoneJudith is the author of three poetry collections, a prizewinning memoir, and a book on writing literary memoirs, Writing the Memoir: From Truth to Art, which is used in numerous writing programs. Her work has been included in many anthologies and literary journals. She has received numerous literary awards and is active in creating and participating in writing retreats and workshops.
