| Fall Recipe
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This looks like a great recipe to make with kids this fall. It is from Lovina Eicher - The Amish Cook columnist. Lovina lives in southern Michigan. She and her husband Joe have eight children. Her column is in each issue of our magazine.
PUMPKIN CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 egg
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup of pumpkin
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup nuts
Preheat oven to 350. Cream together sugar, butter and egg in a large bowl. Add rest of ingredients along with pumpkin. Put chocolate chips and nuts in last. Drop by teaspoon onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 until done, about 10 minutes.
Humor Helps
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kids are already thinking ahead to Christmas and presents. I recently received a cute story from a grandmother in Texas. Jean's granddaughter, Kaylea, recently asked her mother, "Mom, did Santa Claus make my Anibell (her doll)?" Her mother answered, "Yes." Then Kaylea, who is in first grade and learning to read, asked, "Why does it say 'Made in China?' on the back?"
If you have a funny story (and/or photo) to share, please e-mail it to me and we'll use it in an upcoming issue of Greater Fort Wayne Family Magazine. As you know, the magazine is free each month if you pick it up at one of our hundreds of area locations - or for $12 a year you can have the convenience of a subscription. (A great gift for new parents or grandparents!)
