  from Jacci Howard Bear
I have two new projects in the Makeovers section for you to practice your design skills on. Redesign these projects then post your efforts in the forum for critique. All the projects in the makeover section are mostly entirely made up from my sometimes overactive imagination. A few of them were real projects submitted by members but they are for projects long completed -- all you're doing is showing how you might have done it differently. On these two new projects you're doing packaging. I've provided either a template or dimensions for the project (these may not be absolutely precise measurements for a real world project but they are sufficient for these makeovers).

If you want more information on these imaginary companies, just ask -- I'm sure I can make up some facts for you. Ask the same kinds of questions you might ask of a client who comes to you with this same sort of project. I'll add your questions and my (the "company") answers) to the makeover guidelines.

Clean Up This Company's Product Line
Do a makeover on a bar of soap (or the box, at least). Create a new look for the Saphon Carrot & Orange Beauty Bar. They want a less old-fashioned, more contemporary design. I've given you the box template and shown you the original layout. Now make it your own. As a bonus, show us how you might extend your idea to other products and packages in the Saphon line.

Meditate on This CD Case Sleeve
In this makeover project you will design a CD case sleeve for a series of audio CDs of meditation music using the given parameters. I've given you a mock-up of one CD sleeve. Create one sample -- all the panels -- for one of four CDs (your choice) then show us just the front panel for the other CDs in the series. They're all different but part of a series so keep that in mind as you redesign.
