A Lesson in Strategy: Lead with a Vision
In Yogi Berra’s 2007 commencement speech to the graduating
class of St. Louis University, he said, “Be careful if you
don’t know where you’re going in life, because you might not
get there.”
Yogi’s latest take on his own funny and famous quote from
years ago certainly describes the unfortunate situation that
many professionals and business owners find themselves in.
While focusing on the tactical nature of doing business, the
strategic vision is often lost, and in some cases it never
gets established in the first place. We’re sure that we need
to make the month. We’re sure that we have to pay the bills.
We know that we have to keep our customers happy if we have
any hope of survival. But in the end, will the business
activities we engage in every day deliver the end result we
wish for?

"How
To Profit From Social Media Marketing"
11:30 am - 1:00 pm EST on November 19, 2008
The "noise" is deafening. Find
out how to turn the "noise" into results.
You've been reading about social media everywhere, from the
business
press to the local newspaper.
Industry publications are abuzz about it. It's on the news
-- and news outlets are even using it. Just look at CNN's
iReport and correspondent Rick Sanchez, who relies on
Twitter as an integral part of his reports.
Your boss may be asking about it -- or insisting that the
company avoid it like the plague. Then again, if you're a
savvy boss, business owner or marketing Pro -- as we suspect
you are -- you want to dig into it and "get the goods" on
how you can use it to grow your business and your career.

little Leadership: It’s the Smallest
Things That Make the Biggest Difference
Samuel was ready to pull his hair out. Transferred from
corporate to a struggling out-of-state plant, he had done
everything he knew to establish trust and build credibility
but nothing had seemed to work. Nine months in, he still
sensed suspicion and guardedness whenever he walked the shop
floor, and business results were lagging. Finally, he turned
to a trusted member of his team for advice and was
dumfounded by the response:
Change your license plates. Every day the employees come to
work and see your car in the lot with license plates from
your previous state. They assume you’re just like all the
rest: another short-timer who will be returning to corporate
soon enough, so why should they buy-in to you? If you want
to prove you’re here to stay, change your plates!
