| Teachable Moments
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now that the weather is becoming cooler, the leaves will soon
put on their Fall show of colors. Turn this experience into a great
teachable moment.
First, talk about the season and the changes Fall
brings in the outdoor environment. Gather leaves now, while they are
green, and put them between layers of newspaper using a heavy object to
press them flat. When the leaves change color and fall, gather them
from the same tree as the green leaves. Press the colored leaves as
above. Children can match the leaf shapes and observe how they have
changed. They can also make a scrapbook of leaves by gluing them on
paper and writing the name of the tree the leaves belong to.
Humor Helps
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm a Sunday School teacher at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Avilla.
During the Sunday School opening recently Suzanne Zueshow was telling
the students about Abraham and Sarah and how they were childless - but
then eventually, according to God's promise, had descendants "as
numerous as the stars in the skies." That really caught the students'
attention. "Wow!" Griffin Parks, a second grade student, piped up.
"They would need a limo for all those children!"
