This week on BBC World... Week commencing 12th April 2008

  News

BBC World continues its Cost Of Food series this week, with reports looking at the changing price of rice worldwide and its impact on farmers and consumers. The BBC's Rajesh Mirchandani travels to the US, the fourth largest exporter of rice. The rice grown here is medium grain, not the long grain popular in Asia. However, officials at the Rice Commission say they are expecting a bumper crop this year, which could result in an increased appetite for American rice. Plus Karishma Vaswani speaks to a rice farmer who is getting worried about the minimum export price and the head of a mill who worries that supplies will run out.
