Fight Night

First he was in. Then he was out. At 11:30 this morning, Republican presidential candidate John McCain confirmed that he would board a p*** from Washington to Mississippi for a debate showdown with his Democratic opponent, Barack Obama (even though no deal had been reached on Capitol Hill on the government bailout). The show goes on. And "Nightline" co-anchor Terry Moran is live in Oxford, from the campus of Ole Miss, with a wrap of the night's main event -- and a look at post-debate spin. ABC News' Chief Washington Correspondent George Stephanopoulos will also be back with his report card. Who will the get the better of his opponent in this critical first debate?

And What About That $700 Billion Bailout?

Lawmakers went back to work today on the details of the massive rescue plan for the troubled U.S. economy. Democrats and Republicans alike cited some progress, but it was unlikely as of this writing that a deal would be struck by midnight. In fact, Stephanopoulos has just reported that the full Senate may not vote on the bailout package until Wednesday -- though an agreement on terms could happen over the weekend. If news does break, we'll have it for you.
