Kinwei Techologies has announced a Windows CE GPS system that comes with
a game joypad. The KW-GM4306TG has a 4.3-inch touchscreen display,
400MHz processor, 64MB of RAM, and 256 of flash storage, Bluetooth, plus

HOME MEDIA SERVER RUNS EMBEDDED VISTA
Crestron has announced a digital media server that runs an embedded
version of Windows Vista. The ADMS (Adagio Digital Music System)

storage, Internet Explorer, plus HDMI, S/PDIF, and component outputs.

PHONE SPORTS DEDICATED SLOT FOR GPS MAPS
Velocity Mobile announced a new Windows Mobile 6.1-based phone designed
to provide enhanced GPS capabilities. The Velocity 83 has two microSD
slots, with one dedicated to map storage, and it includes a 2.8-inch
touchscreen display, quad-band (850/900/1800/1900MHz) GSM support, WiFi,
and an enhanced "Odyssey" user interface.

SCANNING HANDHELD HAS TILTED DISPLAY
Psion Teklogix has introduced a Windows CE 5.0 handheld computer that

WINDOWS CE TAKES ON LINUX IN LOW-END NETBOOKS
[Updated, Sep. 22] -- Quarta Mobile has announced a version of Windows
CE 6.0 tailored for netbooks and MIDs (mobile internet devices). The
open-source "MID-Shell for Windows Embedded CE 6.0" will be an
alternative to Linux for low-end devices with SSDs (solid state disks).

WINDOWS MOBILE 7 "DELAYED"
Microsoft has reportedly delayed the release of Windows Mobile 7 until
the second half of 2009. The company has informed cell phone makers and
partners that the operating system update, originally expected during
the first quarter, won't be ready, according to a report.

MICROSOFT RELEASES "CRITICAL" XPE PATCHES
Microsoft has released its monthly batch of security updates for Windows
XP Embedded (XPe). Announced on Microsoft's Windows Embedded Standard
blog, and available now on the company's Mobile and Embedded
Communications Extranet (ECE), the September updates include two fixes
that address "critical" faults.

"FASTEST" WINDOWS MOBILE BROWSER FINALLY DOWNLOADABLE
Skyfire Labs announced a public beta of its Windows Mobile web browser,
claimed to make browsing on a smartphone "just like browsing on a PC."
Touted features in Skyfire version 0.8 include fast operation,
contextual zoom, improved text entry, A/V playback, and Today screen
integration.
