UNIQLO Collects 910,000 Used Products for Donation to Developing
Countries

UNIQLO Co., a leading retail clothing chain, announced on May 2, 2008,
that it conducted its fourth nationwide recycling program to collect and
recycle used products in March 2008. During the campaign, it collected
910,000 items of clothing from customers.

Cumulative Prius Sales Exceed 1 Million

Toyota Motor Corp. announced on May 15, 2008, that worldwide cumulative
sales of the Prius passed the one million mark at the end of April 2008.
Globally 1,027,700 units were sold, of which 315,000 units were sold
domestically and 712,700 units were sold overseas.

Statement Adopted at World Youth Forum Toward Toyako Summit

Organized by youth groups led by the NGO A SEED JAPAN and the Japan
Youth G8 Project, the "World Youth Forum toward Summit for Sustainable
Society" (WYF) was held in Tokyo on June 27-30, 2008. About 100 youth,
including 15 from overseas, representing each region and area of
interest, participated in this youth-led event and discussed climate
change, biodiversity and sustainable development.

MOE Sets Targets to Reduce Waste, Increase Waste Power Generation and
Recycling by 2012

The Japanese Ministry of the Environment (MOE) released a plan on March
24, 2008, for reducing waste and improving waste disposal facilities
from fiscal years 2008 to 2012. The plan received Cabinet approval on
March 25, and will be officially formulated.

Japanese House Builder Constructing Net-Zero Energy Home

Tsuchiya Twoby Home Co. of Japan started constructing the nation's first
Super E Net-Zero energy home and exhibited the construction site of the
house in Sapporo, Hokkaido, on June 26, 2008. The company intends to
get the house certified according to tests based on the Canadian
government's Super E (R) Home Program. With the cooperation of
Canadian experts, the house was designed to achieve an annual zero
energy balance.

Japan Ranks First in Number of Patents Filed in the Fields of
Environment and Energy

The Japan Patent Office (JPO) announced on April 23, 2008, that Japan
placed first in the number of patent applications filed in Japan, the
United States, Europe, China, and South Korea in the fields of both the
environment and energy, two of the 12 themes of its Patent Applications
Technology Trend Survey.

Okinawa Launches Study on Sustainable Tourism

The Okinawa prefectural government announced on February 13, 2008, in an
explanatory statement on bills submitted to the prefectural assembly,
that the fiscal 2008 national budget earmarked funds needed for the
prefecture's new project to help Okinawa become a sustainable tourist
destination.

Japanese Data Centers Set to Double Electricity Consumption by 2012

MIC Research Institute Ltd., a Japanese market research firm specialized
in the information and telecommunication (IT) fields, announced on May
7, 2008, that it has compiled data and results for its FY2008 Survey on
Electricity Consumption in Data Centers and Green IT Promotion.
