Dear Criss,
Last week, Wine House hosted the first of its Mount Mary Dinners.
What fantastic wines! Thanks to everyone for joining us. The second
installment will be this Thursday night, and no doubt we will keep
you in the loop with how the night went. This Saturday (yes... AFL
Grand Final day), we will be holding our Shiraz of Australia
tasting. Come along and have a look at six or seven brilliant Aussie
Shirazes from around the country, matched to some enticing cheese
and nibbles. Beats getting wet at the "G" any day! This time of year
is often quite an exciting time, as many winemakers are ready to
unleash their new creations on the market. In recent weeks,
Winehouse has taken delivery of some exciting new releases and this
week, Gill and I will be having a closer look at a few: namely
Grosset and
Jasper Hill. We also have a
fantastic
Grosset "New & Old" Riesling Pack
on offer. Finally, there is some Wine House trivia for you to work
out for your
chance at a $30 voucher!
We hope you enjoy,
From the Team at Wine House

not THE) world's finest examples! Come to this tasting and find out
why for yourself....
Available on tasting will be:

Barossa

Teusner 'The Riebke' Shiraz 2007,
Barossa

Old & Rare Wines - New Releases!
Jasper Hill!
Established in 1975 by Ron and Elva Laughton, Jasper Hill is located
in the Heathcote region in Central Victoria. They employ completely
organic and biodynamic processes in the vineyard and are proud to
proclaim that chemicals have not once touched the soil or the vines
since their inception in 1975. In regards to the intense and
striking flavour of their wines, Jasper Hill pays thanks to nature -
as winemakers, they simply fine tune the edges. For the Laughtons,
the best plan of attack with winemaking is to keep it simple and
uncomplicated - let the terroir speak for itself. And that is
exactly what they do.
The 2008 release includes the following:
-
Jasper Hill Georgia's Paddock Shiraz 2007
-
Jasper Hill Emily's Paddock Shiraz Cabernet
Franc 2007
-
Jasper Hill Georgia's Paddock Riesling 2008
Grosset!
Grosset
Wines is an independently owned winery set in the Clare Valley
producing just six highly regarded premium wines each vintage.
Established in 1981 by Jeffrey Grosset, the winery is stylish but
functional and reflects the attention to detail that extends to the
Grosset estate-owned Clare Valley vineyards and to the winemaking.
Grosset's exquisite Polish Hill and Watervale Rieslings have led the
charge in the Clare Valley Riesling renaissance. Polish Hill is an
exclusive trademark and was named after the nearby Hill River
settlement established by Polish migrants in the 1840s.

Wine House Trivia
Last week's
question was a word jumble...
- SMLURUTAE
- SOAEUUSR
- EBSESNEAEREUL
Congratulations Paige, you
hit it on the head!
SMLURUTAE = Meursault
SOAEUUSR = Rousseau
EBSESNEAEREUL = Beerenauslese
This week's question is...
Name the first four
doctors (and their wineries) who established vineyards in the Yarra
Valley's second generation of winemaking.

DECANTING WINES
Wine House recommends that any wine
shipped to you stands for one day before opening. This will
allow the wine to settle after transport and for any aged sediment
to sink slowly to the bottom of the bottle.
Decanting all table wine is
recommended, particularly red wine. By pouring wine into a decanter,
or any jug, and allowing oxygen to come in contact with the
wine, the aromas of the wine will broaden and tannins will soften. This is
what is known as breathing the wine.
Decanting aged wine is required to
remove sediment from the wine poured to guests more so than wine
breathing. Therefore stop pouring an aged wine into your decanter
once sediment is seen.
Young wine generally require more
time in a decanter. As a guide the further the wine is from maturity
the more time it will be needed in a decanter prior to the ideal
wine condition for serving, and remember individual taste dictates
what maturity is and should you feel the wine is not ready a second
decanter to rapidly breath the wine may be needed.
