In May, pictures showing a tribe of Amazon indians aiming weapons at an airp*** overhead made an international splash. The images showed a primitive people in body paint, and the government of Brazil later said the photos were released to show people that indigenous tribes were being threatened by modernization. The photos inspired "Nightline" to travel up the Amazon River to meet the Enawene Nawe, a tribe that has never before been seen on television. Dan Harris is the first reporter to make contact with these people in their village. He learns about the way they survive, their rituals and their fear of extinction at the hands of loggers and developers. Harris finds a second tribe, the Akuntsu, of which only six people remain. You can see photos HERE of an adventure of a lifetime in the first part of the "Nightline" "Into the Wild" series. We hope you'll join us.
