Software Development :: User Interfaces
About: Aejaks is a windowing toolkit for rapid development of AJAX-enabled
Web applications. It combines the powerful simplicity of the Tcl language
with the Java-based Echo2 browser-independent windowing system. Aejaks
applications are written in a single scripting language, without need to
write any HTML, Javascript, or CSS. It borrows from the Tk windowing
system, but is not directly compatible with Tk. It runs on top of any Java
Web server, and can make use of any existing Java library.
Changes: This release has a MrPersister database access library. The H2
Database engine is included for quick-start database application
development. Also included are the Apache Log4J logging system, a
RichTextArea widget, standard library dialogs for messages, input, color
selection, date selection, and file uploads, and a Hyde package for easy
Tcl-to-Java integration. New sample applications: TclTutor, Aejaks Rolodex,
and WarMachine.

About: Barcode Writer in Pure Postscript implements the printing of many
barcode formats entirely within level 2 PostScript, so that the process of
converting the input string into the printed output is performed by the
printer itself. This avoids the need to re-implement the barcode generation
process whenever your language needs change. The project supports most
major barcode formats including EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, ISBN, Code 128
(A, B, and C), Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, Postnet, Code 2 of 5, and
Codabar.

[009] - Big Medium 2.0.8 (Stable)
by Josh Clark (http://freshmeat.net/users/joshclark/)
Mon, Sep 15th 2008 14:54
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: Big Medium is a content management system aimed squarely at Web
designers who want a CMS that enables extremely flexible designs but
remains easy to set up without programming skills. The software does not
impose cookie-cutter layouts: If you bring basic to intermediate HTML/CSS
know-how, Big Medium can manage just about any design you throw at it. Once
the designer configures the templates, he or she can hand the site over to
content editors; no technical know-how is required to add or edit pages.
Big Medium's friendly, humane interface is easy and non-threatening for CMS
newbies.
Changes: The "comment count" link element now properly displays in all
link widgets. A bug that could prevent overflow link pages from being
properly updated was fixed. A bug that caused Internet Explorer to
mishandle email links created in the rich-text editor was fixed. A display
issue that caused document icons in download links to appear in the
incorrect location in Internet Explorer was fixed. A compression problem in
prototype-scriptaculous.js was fixed.

Games/Entertainment :: Simulation
About: cave9 is a gravity cave-exploration game. It's a first person 3D
version of the classic SF-Cave game. Your ship travels into a
procedurally-generated cave at constant forward speed, and you have to
control two diagonal thrusts to keep it from hitting the walls. As the game
progress, the cave will twist more and become more tight.
Changes: This release adds cave rooms, more realistic cave geometry, and a
nicer HUD. The ship now tilts when turning. The new font and texture are
now compatible with FOSS licenses. There are also some minor new features

extensive administrative needs, and works more or less like a wiki. New
pages can be made on the fly, rather than through an administrative page.
Changes: Upgraded to xinha 0.95 and editarea 0.7.2.2. A vulnerability in
the xinha code has been removed. Editing without being logged in is
possible. Other vulnerabilities have been fixed. The ability to render PHP

[013] - DarGUI 0.4.1
by Malcolm Poole (http://freshmeat.net/users/pastorescoces/)
Mon, Sep 15th 2008 23:11
System :: Archiving :: Backup
About: DarGUI is a graphical frontend for the Disk ARchiving utility (DAR)
that aims to make it easier and quicker to perform common backup tasks
using DAR. It uses the GTK+ library, which is installed on most Linux
distributions, so usually the only additional dependency is DAR. DarGUI
aims to complement and enhance the command line features of DAR rather than
conceal them, and to help users to learn how DAR works so that they can use
it from the command line when necessary. It is written in Pascal using
FreePascal and the Lazarus IDE.
Changes: This release fixes a bug preventing loading of differential
backups containing REMOVED entries. It fixes a bug where scrollbars were
not initially visible. The menu option Show Selected now works as expected.
Support has been added for Blowfish encryption.

Database
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: DBSight is a J2EE search platform for instant scalable full-text
search on any relational database, for both beginners and experts. It
features a built-in database crawler following user-defined SQL,
incremental indexing, user-controllable result ranking, the ability to
return results with highlights (like Google), and categorized result counts
(like Amazon). It can easily integrate with other languages with
XML/JSON/HTML. There is a UI for all operations, so no Java coding is
necessary. Deleted or updated records in database can be synchronized also.
Changes: This release fixes Lucene memory leaking when refreshing the
index in memory-only mode. It adds configurable max field length. It can
process an empty query by matching all documents in multi-index search
mode. It handles SqlServer special empty or all zero date time format.

[016] - ExactImage 0.6.0
by René Rebe (http://freshmeat.net/users/ReneRebe/)
Mon, Sep 15th 2008 10:52
Multimedia :: Graphics
About: ExactImage is a fast C++ image processing library. Unlike
ImageMagick, it allows operation in several color spaces and bit depths
natively, resulting in much lower memory and computational requirements.
Some optimized algorithms operate in 1/20 of the time ImageMagick requires,
and displaying large images can be as fast as 1/10 of the time the
"display" program takes.
Changes: The PDF codec was completely rewritten to not only allow you to
dump images into PDFs, but write arbitrary vector objects and multiple
pages. A new command line tool was added that allows hOCR annotated HTML to
be converted into perfectly laid out, searchable PDF files. The barcode
recognition was improved regarding CODE25 and CODE28 recognition and
checksum computation. De-skew accuracy was slightly improved and is now
exported through SWIG.

[017] - Florence 0.3.0
by François Agrech (http://freshmeat.net/users/agrech/)
Mon, Sep 15th 2008 20:42
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
About: Florence is a scalable on-screen virtual keyboard for GNOME that
stays out of your way when you don't need it. It is useful if you can't use
a real keyboard either because of a handicap, disease, broken keyboard, or
tablet PC but you can use a pointing device. It aims at being easy and
pretty.
Changes: The most visible change of this version is its speed. It starts
more quickly and is more responsive. Animation is also smoother. The
non-locking modifiers keys don't behave exactly like previous versions of
florence. All modifiers are released when a non-modifier key is pressed.
Under the hood, the drawing system has been redesigned to use less memory
with cairo and librsvg instead of libgnomecanvas and libart. XML schema
validation has been replaced with relax-ng (compact syntax) validation for
the layout file. This is much more readable and maintainable.

[029] - JCR 0.6.5
by John Dickson (http://freshmeat.net/users/captsens/)
Mon, Sep 15th 2008 12:01
Software Development :: Quality Assurance
About: JCR is a Web application for performing and managing formal code
reviews. Although it has some special logic for reviewing Java projects, it
can be used for reviews of any type of source code. JCR manages all stages
of the review process (initial project setup, individual review, joint
review meeting, post-review tidy-up), but it's mainly there to show diff
views of files that have changed and to allow comments to be made on any
line of any file marked for review.
Changes: This release adds syntax highlighting for most types of files,
and other changes were made to the file view and review pages to make them
more usable, including the addition of caching for speed improvements.
There is also now a way to set the review priority on many files at a time,
which should speed up readying new projects for review. There is now an
option to provide your own review decision types (the actions in the
dropdown on the comment dialogs) as an alternative to using the built-in
JCR list. There have been a few bugfixes.

data can be inserted into the survey either by a "pretty" public screen
which presents each question one at a time, or by a quick and nasty data
entry screen. It includes the capacity to generate individualized "tokens",
so that invitations can be issued to participants. It also has the capacity
to set conditions on whether questions will display (branching), numerous
question types, and a basic statistics function.

the one of bzip2. Lzip is only a data compressor, not an archiver. It has
no facilities for multiple files, encryption, or archive-splitting, but, in
the Unix tradition, relies instead on separate external utilities such as
GNU Tar for these tasks.

[037] - pdnsd 1.2.7-par
by Paul A. Rombouts (http://freshmeat.net/users/parombouts/)
Mon, Sep 15th 2008 11:44
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
About: pdnsd is a Proxy DNS server for Linux and FreeBSD that is designed
to cope with unreacheable nameservers (e.g. because the dial-in link is not
up) in a graceful manner to prevent DNS-dependent applications like
Netscape from hanging. It has a permanent disk cache and supports parallel
query and a wide variety of link uptests. It also has the ability to serve
some local records.
Changes: This version fixes some security problems. It contains a fix for
a "dangling pointer" bug that could cause pdnsd to crash when it received a
long reply. It also addresses some of the issues raised in the CERT
vulnerability note VU#800113 by making source port randomization the
default. This release also fixes problems with compiling pdnsd for the ARM

by deltaray (http://freshmeat.net/users/deltaray/)
Mon, Sep 15th 2008 17:01
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
About: phpLogCon is a Web front-end for syslog and other network event
data. It provides easy browsing and some basic analysis. Data are taken
from databases or plain syslog text files, so phpLogCon does not require
changes to an existing logging infrastructure. Depending on the log data
present, it can process syslog messages, Windows event log entries, and
some more exotic things. Its troubleshooting support enables users to
quickly find solutions to problems seen in the log data.
Changes: This release adds a Statistics page for chart generation. The
following charts are possible: pie, vertical bar, and horizontal bar. All
charts can be configured within the Admin Center, if the user system is
installed and enabled. Custom charts can be added as well. Filter/search
support has been added for processid, event category, and the event user
field. There is a database update, as this release has a new table in which
to store configured charts. A few minor filtering issues have been fixed,
specially with numeric filters.
