A Q&A with Google's Jeff Keltner

A humble little old bus left Google's Mountain View, CA campus Monday for a 5,000-mile trek across the US to visit 10 college campuses, beginning with southern California's USC. Of course, the 30-year-old bus was converted to bio-diesel, updated with solar panels and other green features, stocked with tons of technology and wireless Internet, and given an adorable "Google" paint job. It departed on schedule, chock full of Google Apps for Education demos and tech experts (riding along or flying to meet the bus) with new ideas to discuss with students and faculty.

34 Washington Colleges Move into Online Course Delivery

The Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges is rolling out a new system to deliver online classes, presentations, and meetings. The organization recently signed on with Elluminate to use that company's Elluminate Learning Suite across its 34 member colleges.

Small Georgia College Rolls Out 802.11n Network

Cost is an issue with any wireless network project, and, for the smallest schools, it can be an overriding factor. But 700-student Emmanuel College, located deep in Georgia, brought the cost of a new 802.11n network under control by initially focusing on strategic areas such as its residence halls. It's also saving money by eliminating the high cost of continual IT staff repairs to the previous wireless system.

Long Beach Students Get Chinese Language Tutoring Direct from Beijing

A class at California State University, Long Beach has signed up to receive online tutoring in Chinese from eChineseLearning. The company, based in Beijing, provides Chinese language lessons for academic, business, and personal use through Skype. The program was piloted earlier this year by eight students in CSU's Asian and Asian American Studies Department who were studying the fundamentals of Chinese. Each student received an hour of tutoring each week.

Vanderbilt U and Med Center Expand Wireless Network with Sprint and Nextel

Vanderbilt University and Medical Center (VUMC) will be upgrading its wireless connectivity on campus with the help of Sprint, a long-time provider of wireless services to the school. Sprint will expand the existing system, including additional network coverage on both the Nationwide Sprint Network and the Nextel National Network covering eight buildings.

Kansas' Johnson County CC Moves to Angel for Blended Course Delivery

Johnson County Community College (JCCC) in Overland Park, Kansas has adopted the Angel Learning Management Suite (LMS) to deliver online and blended courses. The largest of Kansas' 19 community colleges, JCCC chose to transition to the Angel LMS from Blackboard following a review of available products. According to a statement from the vendor, the college chose Angel for its stability, ease of use, and feature set.
