[001] - Astaro Command Center 1.900
by astaro (http://freshmeat.net/users/astaro/)
Wed, Sep 10th 2008 17:11
Internet
Security
System :: Networking
About: Astaro Command Center (ACC) is an application for centralized
management of Astaros gateway products. With ACC, network administrators
can easily manage and control multiple Astaro devices. The two separated
Web-Based GUIs (WebAdmin and Gateway Manager) enable the split of
ACC-system administration and role-based Gateway monitoring and can be also
implemented in existing Active Directory or eDirectory environments.
provides an effective overview that details the actual health of each
device, swiftly allowing administrators to see which gateways require more
attention or immediate action (by reason of e.g. threat level, license, or
CPU/memory/disk usage). Over the one-click WebAdmin SSO to each connected
gateway, it is possible to react instantly if necessary.
Changes: This release focuses on reliability, scalability, performance,
and additional features. Also implemented is the split of the graphical
user interface (GUI) into "WebAdmin" and "Gateway Manager". This release
offers Directory Service integration, trend indicators, filter bars,
service monitoring, enhanced mouseover details, scheduled operations, and
many small but very useful improvements.

Software Development :: Bug Tracking
About: JIRA is a J2EE-based issue tracking, bug tracking, and project
management application. It handles all kinds of issues (including bugs,
features, enhancements, and tasks) and can be used for bug tracking,
development help, project management, or group task cataloging.
Changes: This hrelease adds a number of frequently requested changes.
Dashboards can now be shared between users. Filters can be shared with
projects or multiple groups. Both Dashboards and filters can searched for
and marked as "favourites". Admins can restore a single Project from a
backup file into an existing JIRA instance, and can edit active Workflows
directly. This release adds other major features and closes over 200
defects.

About: bigtinker is overloaded with applets for rwdtinker, the core
application for a Ruby application framework using the RubyWebDialogs GUI.
Rwdtinker provides a system for developing programs, and uses a Web-based
interface. It allows a developer to combine and create applets to implement
an application. It features built-in bug report submission, a test
framework, and context-sensitive help. Bigtinker can run shell commands
under Linux, use a calculator, build scripts of math commands, run Ruby
commands in a browser, show a calendar, use an address book, look up word
definitions, run a Unix fortune program, and read Gutenberg books. It
includes a hello world application to help in building your own.
Changes: This release has fixes for applet loading, is updated for
rwdtinker 1.76, and has refactored GUI file locations. The location of rwd
files has been changed to the lib folder.

[006] - Butterfly Container 2.5.9-beta
by Jakob Jenkov (http://freshmeat.net/users/jjenkov/)
Wed, Sep 10th 2008 12:20
About: Butterfly Container is a Java dependency injection container. It is
smaller (~100KB jar), yet more flexible and easier to use than Spring,
Pico, and Guice (at least in the developers' opinion). Instead of XML,
Butterfly Container is configured using a simple, flexible, Java-like
configuration language, or by plugging plain non-annotation, non-reflection
Java factories into the container. There are no external dependencies.
Changes: This version brings easy Map configuration and the ability to
assign names to the input streams from which you read container scripts.
This name is used when an error is detected in the script, making it easier
to find out the file in which the error occurred. It is now also possible
to have the ScriptFactoryBuilder close the script input stream for you.
This version also fixes a minor bug related to parsing and error messages.

files in batch, i.e. call ccextractor once per file. It adds an option to
prevent duplicate lines in roll-up captions. There are several minor
bugfixes. The GUI has been updated to add the new options.

About: check_logfiles is a plugin for Nagios which checks logfiles for
defined patterns. It is capable of detecting logfile rotation. If you tell
it how the rotated archives look, it will also examine these files. Unlike
check_logfiles, traditional logfile plugins were not aware of the gap which
could occur, so under some circumstances they ignored what had happened
between their checks. A configuration file is used to specify where to
search, what to search, and what to do if a matching line is found.

[029] - Lbzip2 0.05
by lacos (http://freshmeat.net/users/lacos/)
Wed, Sep 10th 2008 04:57
System :: Archiving :: Compression
About: Lbzip2 is a Pthreads-based parallel bzip2/bunzip2 filter, passable
to GNU tar with the --use-compress-program option. It isn't restricted to
regular files on input, nor output. Successful splitting for decompression
isn't guaranteed, just very likely (failure is detected). Splitting in both
modes and compression itself occur with an approximate 900k block size. On
an Athlon-64 X2 6000+, lbzip2 was 92% faster than standard bzip2 when
compressing, and 45% faster when decompressing (based on wall clock time).
Lbzip2 strives to be portable by requiring UNIX 98 APIs only, besides an
unmodified libbz2.
Changes: The decompressor was redesigned: all CPU-bound operations were
moved into the worker threads, so that now, besides the muxer, the splitter
is purely I/O-bound too. Lbzip2 supports tracing its memory allocation with
the new "-t" option. Both the compressor and decompressor were retested.

About: TIGER is a set of Bourne shell scripts, C programs, and data files
which are used to perform a security audit of Unix systems. The security
audit results are useful both for system analysis (security auditing) and
for real-time, host-based intrusion detection.
Changes: This version is mainly a bugfix release that incorporates all the
fixes introduced in Debian since 3.2.2. It also updates Linux's gen_mounts
to support many more filesystems, and provides a way for local
administrators to define local and non-local filesystems. This makes it

About: [fleXive] is a Java EE 5 framework for the development of complex
and evolving (Web) applications. It speeds up development by easing many
tedious and repetitive programming tasks and helping to keep your
application(s) flexible during the development cycle and in production. It
concentrates on enterprise-scale content modeling, storage, and retrieval,
and includes comprehensive JSF support for displaying and manipulating
these contents in (Web) applications. The runtime environment can be
included in existing Java EE applications, but you can also build new
applications and package them into stand-alone Java EE applications. Key
features include persistence, security, versioning, multi-language support,
scripting, etc.
Changes: Hierarchical XML-like data structures can be dynamically mapped
and defined to relational databases. Content manipulation can be done
without creating custom DAOs. The data and user interface were
internationalized. Versioning, history, and workflows were implemented.
Content and data structures can be imported and exported. Security can be
enforced using access control lists, ruling mandators, and
roles/groups/users. Event based JSR-223 scripting was added. A virtual
tree-like file system was added. A powerful SQL-like query engine, caching,
and support for mandator and ASP were added.
