Gordo Tops 2009 London
|
|||||||||
According to Zagat's just-released 2009 London Restaurants guide, Italian takes the prize as the city’s cuisine of choice, even though New French fave Gordon Ramsay at 68 Royal Hospital Rd. reclaimed the No. 1 spot for Food (after a year in second place to Chez Bruce) and maintained the No. 1 rank for Service. But no matter what the cuisine, the Survey indicates Londoners don’t seem to find the rising average cost of a meal (now £40.55, up 3.7% from last year) a deterrent from eating out – 82% of the Survey respondents report that they are going out just as much if not more than they were two years ago. Those who are looking to save some money should check out the Best Buys list, which is topped by Food for Thought, Churchill Arms and Books for Cooks. |
Vegas' Stratta-sphere Gets Bigger
Published in Notable Openings
Alex Stratta already has an eponymous restaurant at Wynn Las Vegas on the Strip – that would be Alex – but he’s added another with Stratta, a more casual rustic Italian with an open-fire hearth; its less expensive (though still pricey) menu offers pizzas and pastas plus dishes more characteristic of the chef, such as tenderloin of beef with eggplant rollatini. 3131 Las Vegas Blvd. S., Las Vegas; 702-770-3463 Recent Notable Openings:

Bouley's NYC Shuffle Continues
Published in Deals/News/Events
If there is one chef to watch in the 2008/09 season it would have to be David Bouley. The TriBeCa toque is in the midst of a massive shuffle in his campus of restaurants around NYC's Duane Street – an area we like to think of as Bouleyville. Though we reported most of these changes last February, the enormous amount of work involved has meant inevitable delays, and since the Buzz took a recent walk-through of the construction we thought a refresher was in order as the openings approach. Because of an embargo, we can't tell you about the remarkably detailed decor we saw – from the hand-carved wood floors to the hand-painted wallpaper – but trust us when we say it's in a league of its own... |
Asian Meets Cajun in Cali
Published in Trend Watch
Even in a land of Curious Culinary Trends, the new wave of Asian-Cajun restaurants that's swept across SoCal is an eyebrow-raiser. Its California incarnation seems to have begun in the Vietnamese community of Westminster in Orange County, where Cajun-style crab joints began popping up several months ago – down-home restaurants with names like The Cajun Corner, Rockin' Crawfish and The Boiling Crab. Those hunting for a taste of Saigon at these spots will find little if any, for these are the sort of unpretentious, cut-to-the-chase eateries found along the shores of Lake Pontchartrain... |
