Down ... but not OUT!
Daily Encounter Attacked Three Times in Three Weeks!
Seven weeks ago ACTS web and Daily Encounter were attacked by a "phishser" sending out probably thousands of pornographic spam emails making it appear that they came from an ACTS e-mail address. Our server gave us two hours to close down all of our Encounter subscriber e-mails and our response web pages. We had been with this server for ten years. Unfortunately we weren't able to let our 183,000 subscribers know what had happened.
By way of interest, tech support has told me that it is nigh on impossible to stop phishers.
Three attacks in three weeks: Before tech support got us moved to a new server which we had to do, we were hit by another "hacker-attacker" (that's my non-technical term), and all our web and email services were totally closed down. And within 18 hours of being moved to the new server, we were hit by yet another "hacker-attacker."
For the past six weeks we've been pretty much out of commission. But behind the scenes we and the tech support company we use have been working very hard to bit by bit rebuild our entire web and e-mail systems and to do everything possible to block being attacked again by malicious hackers. We still have a long way to go to fix all our websites but hopefully I will now be able to at least manually send out Daily Encounter and Weekend Encounter.
I sincerely apologize for this setback and will appreciate your patience and understandingand your earnest prayer support. It is the first time in ten years we have been hit like this. You can, however, get all the back Daily and Weekend Encounters at www.actsweb.org/archives.php.
If you wish to *** (and we hope you won't because of our setback), you can do so at the link immediately below this message.
We count it a real privilege to once again be able to bring you a word of encouragement, help and inspirationwithout chargeevery weekday of the year.
Sincerely,
Richard
