Cover Story | Much Ado About Nothing
Twenty years ago when Sandra Bernhard debuted her one-woman show, Without You I'm Nothing, it was the start of a long-lived and highly quotable artistic journey. Funny, angry and edgy, Bernhard's indelible performance solidified her place as one of the nation's best live performers -- not to mention a perennial favorite of the gay community. Bernhard is bringing her landmark show back to the stage, starting with a limited September run at D.C.'s Theater J. A lot may have changed in the world over the past 20 years, but Bernhard's sharp-edged commentary and acerbic style remain the same.

Along with its nearly clockwork reliability, this annual rodeo of the Atlantic States Gay Rodeo Association brings with it excitement, pageantry, entertainment, parties and a sense of homecoming. By Will O'Bryan

"There's definitely an appreciation for finding the absurd in the world around us, being able to laugh at things rather than cry," says Washington Improv Theater's artistic director Mark Chalfant. And he and his fellow WIT-sters are about to bring Washington to its knees laughing. By Will O'Bryan

According to doctrine in the Muslim community, homosexuality is an act punishable by death. It's a Jihad for Lovenon-negotiable that makes the religious right's mantra of "hate the sin, not the sinner" seem open-minded and generous. And as director Parvez Sharma shows in his documentary, A Jihad for Love, it's not a matter of whether to kill the homosexual, but how to kill the homosexual.

Stage by Kate Wingfield
1984Chris Gallu's adaptation of Orwell's 1984 at The Catalyst Theater is anything but an overly academic experience. It's a fast-paced, extremely accessible interpretation that throws Orwell's story and ideas straight up and out.

Volvo C30Gears by Sean Bugg
One of the singular pleasures of owning a new car is to have people notice it. My own time with the Volvo C30 garnered plenty of appreciative or curious stares, and quite a few questions -- mostly, "What is that?"
