McCain's Pick

In a surprise choice, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., announced earlier today that he has tapped Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to share the Republican ticket. The 44-year-old conservative is a first-term governor. She is now the first female vice-presidential candidate ever to be on the GOP ticket. Palin and McCain will share the stage next week at the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul. ABC's David Wright reports from Ohio. Read more here.

Hurricane Gustav

Three years ago today, Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast. Residents are now preparing for another potentially massive hurricane, as Gustav barrels toward the U.S. mainland with winds up to 75 miles per hour. The storm has already claimed 75 lives as it ripped through the Caribbean. Is New Orleans ready for Hurricane Gustav? ABC's Dan Harris reports live from Louisiana.

Scott Conant is an award-winning chef who owns three New York restaurants, serving simple and sophisticated Italian fare. The 37-year-old's path to the culinary arts began when he enrolled in a community cooking class.
