Dear Criss, While the summer is quickly coming to an end, we here at Rocky Mountain Institute are excited for new developments and upcoming events that are fast approaching. Here is an update on some staff news as well as RMI events that we hope you will be a part of! RMI's Smart Garage Summit We are pleased to announce that RMI's Smart Garage Summit has been scheduled to take place in Portland, Oregon on October 8-10, 2008. The concept of the Smart Garage, which was captured in RMI's July 2008 Solutions Journal, is a sweeping idea which could change the way we interact with energy systems in our society. Although this three-day summit is not open to the public, we're very excited about this exciting event that will introduce a new energy paradigm. We look forward to providing you more information along with photos after October 10!
RMI Represented at AREDAY During the weekend of August 21-23 RMI's CEO Michael Potts and VP of Communications and Media Llewellyn Wells participated as distinguished speakers during American Renewable Energy Day in Aspen. AREDay promotes the education and awareness of renewable energy and energy efficient technologies as practical solutions to global warming through different mediums such as discussion, film, and demonstrations. Michael contributed to a roundtable discussion on "Creating the Renewable Energy Economy," while Llew provided valuable insight on "The Media's Role in Telling the Truth About Climate Change." Their participation allowed the community to get a better idea of RMI's approach to these issues and the steps we are taking to provide realistic solutions to environmental matters that affect us all. Weaving Profits From Values RMI's Boulder office was privileged to host VP of Environmental Initiatives and Special Media at Patagonia Rick Ridgeway on August 14th to discuss business sustainability and the efforts required for this to move from simply a buzzword to the infrastructure and practices that actually run an organization.
