NEW YORK - With gasoline prices finally coming down a bit, Americans' confidence in the economy improved in August by the most in two years, according to a report yesterday. Two announcements suggested that a bottom could be nearing for the housing market, though economists cautioned it was too early to proclaim that the worst was over.
