Green SF

San Francisco is rarely accused of being slow to embrace change. As one of the most eco-thusiastic cities in the world, we now have a green-focused site dedicated to providing visitors with some handy new tools. Plan your itinerary for green travel, find businesses that support the city’s goals for reducing waste and energy consumption and read a blog where area businesses will tell you what they’re doing for the environment. Visit onlyinsanfrancisco.com/green to check it out for yourself. Also, be sure not to miss upcoming green events, like Slow Food Nation ’08, taking place over Labor Day weekend.

Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival: Aug. 22–24
Big-name outdoor concerts don't have to mean big trouble for the environments that host them. Come to Golden Gate Park to hear music mega-stars at Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival — we're talking the likes of Radiohead, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Jack Johnson and Beck — and rest assured that organizers have gone to great lengths to limit the event’s impact through composting, bio-diesel-run generators, a solar-powered stage and more.

Nihonmachi Street Fair: Aug. 9–10

Lion dancers, taiko drummers and music fill the streets of Japantown (or Nihonmachi) in a celebration of diversity at the 35th annual fair. Arts and crafts, children’s activities and authentic cuisine create a festive atmosphere in one of the city’s most beloved neighborhoods. Click here to find out more.

American Craft Show: Aug. 15–17
San Francisco is oh-so crafty. Especially when the largest juried crafts event in the West, the American Craft Show, comes to town. Check out the nation's premier craft artists displaying hand-blown glass, ceramic objects, wearable art, metal works, wooden furniture, and a new “Green” craft category and much more at San Francisco's Fort Mason Center.
