Jennifer,

Research Recap has covered a lot of research on sovereign wealth funds. You can find the stuff tagged SWF at http://www.researchrecap.com/index.php?tag=swf

Some of the underlying research is free, while other reports are available for a fee, but the RR posts are all free to access.

You'll need to define what you mean by "global online information services" - especially with the vast range of free information.

For example, Google is an information service provider that offers its information online. Is this included?

What about government information - such as the SEC, Companies House in the UK, etc. They offer online information.

Or are you just considering commercial information providers that offer information online. If so, you may even need to define this - as you have stockmarket providers (Bloomberg), news aggregators (Factiva), and many specialist services occupying one of the many niches of the overall industry.

Or perhaps you mean companies that facilitate such services....

In any event, there are several research reports on different aspects of the market - and there are university academics who specialize in this sector who would have some figures. Define what you want and it should be easy to find the experts who'll have the data.

Good luck

I think you're ok providing the book has actually been published by the time you add it to stock - just another donation. Pre-publication would definitely be a no-no as you'd be anticipating launch dates which might be subject to embargos.

Sorting out the affairs of an ancient relative, I have found numerous extremely old share certificates for un-heard of companies, which have presumably folded or been taken over or amalgamated. Is there some website where I can find out what has happened to such companies, and whether there is any point trying to recover the assets involved ?

I want to collect information (text) from a number of websites, analyse it and publish the results (stats and charts) in a new website.

Note that I am not copying any content - just using text analysis to extract the info I need.

Can I do this without asking permission? Am I breaching any copyright?

Thanks!

Gianni,

Chapter III of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 allows for the activities that you describe. This also allows for the "incidental inclusion" of copyright material in your analysis.

I am not familiar with Copyright law outside the UK.

Eldin.

Hi!

I am a librarian and have a patron who wants to get published. He has written a novel and from what he says, it has accepted for publication by Raider. Unfrotunately, he is required to pay some production costs. How authentic is this requirement and whats the reputation of the publisher. apart from that, is there an organisation that could sponsor him so he gets published? He is in Zimbabwe.

There are various sorts of publishers, including so-called "Vanity" publishers, who recognise that writers have a great desire to see their works in print, and who provide such a service. These publishers do not expect such publications to make a profit, but they do expect the writers to pay for the cost of publication. Such costs vary, depending on how much the authors require - number of copies to be printed, fancy cover designs, illustrations, photographs, and so on.
Other publishers, who are prepared to take the risk of publication in the hopes of making profits, are very difficult to persuade to take on a new writer. A literary agent might be able to persuade a publisher to take on a writer's work, but, similarly, literary agents are not anxious to take on numerous new writers unless their work is outstanding.
Perhaps your patron would prefer to set up his own website with his work ( or part of it) on the Internet for all to read, with an enquiry facility so that people who would like to read the whole work could get in touch and provide evidence for the demand for it to be published. Then a commercial publisher might be persuaded to take it up.

[345363] Where can I find online episodes of GDR television
http://www.freepint.com/go/b345363

Author:Martin
Date:25/07/2008 09:33 am
Category:Communications and Publishing

Calling all east german media specialists!

does anyone know where I can find online editions of an East German (television) propaganda programme called "Der Schwarze Kanal"? I've searched in all the obvious places like YouTube and a few german video sites but have only found one edition, this being the last one.

I am going to try the German Historical Institute in London but an online repository would be great.

A very brief overview of the programme is here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Der_schwarze_Kanal

Thanks

Martin
