Speaker Bios: Dr. Ninfa Saunders, RN, MSN, MBA, PhD
- Ninfa Saunders as COO, is responsible for all healthcare operations throughout Virtua Health's four hospitals, two rehab centers, senior services, home care, ambulatory and outpatient services in Marlton, NJ. Dr. Saunders brings more than 30 years of clinical nursing and healthcare executive experience to this position. Prior to joining Virtua, she served on the Governor's Georgia Cancer Coalition, which was created by Governor Roy Barnes to develop regional centers of excellence for cancer prevention, detection, treatment and research using funds from the tobacco settlement. Dr. Saunders earned a Master of Business Administration from Emory University in Atlanta, GA, a Master
of Science in Nursing from the Rutgers University in Newark, NJ, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Concordia College in Manila, Philippines. She also attended the Healthcare-Executive Program at Wharton School-University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA, and the International Business Program at the London School of Businessin London, England. In 2006, she completed her Doctorate in Healthcare Administration at the Medical University of South Carolina.
Dr. Michael R. Waldrum, MD
- Dr. Waldrum is the Chief Operating Officer for University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), University Hospital. He has previously overseen information services for the UAB Health System since 1997, being named Chief Information Officer in 1999. An associate professor in pulmonary/critical care, Dr. Waldrum earned his medical degree at UAB in 1989. He completed residency training in internal medical at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. He then completed a fellowship in pulmonary/critical care at UAB. He also earned a Master of Science degree from the Harvard School of Public Health. Active in many professional and scientific societies, he is a member of the College of
Healthcare Information Management Executives, the American College of Physician Executives, the Health Information and Management Systems Society and the American Thoracic Society. He also is a graduate of the Global Leadership in Healthcare Program at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business. Under Dr. Waldrum's leadership, the UAB Health System has been named one of the 100 Most Wired Hospitals or Health Systems for five of six years by Hospitals and Health Networks Magazine.
Marie E. Sinioris
- Marie Sinioris is President and CEO of the National Center for Healthcare Leadership (NCHL). In this role, Ms. Sinioris leads NCHL's national research on health leadership competencies and is directing several national demonstration projects on leadership development and their contribution to organizational excellence. Prior to assuming this national role, Ms. Sinioris held several executive management positions at Rush University Medical Center including President and Chief Executive Officer of Arc Ventures, LLC, a diversified healthcare company. She co-founded and served as President of the Lincoln Foundation for Business Excellence and served as a member of the Malcolm
Baldrige Award Board of Examiners and the Quality Blue Ribbon Advisory Board of the Illinois Hospital Association. She is co-author of "Total Quality Management: The Health Care Pioneers" and is Associate Editor of Quality Management in Health Care. Ms. Sinioris currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Lincoln Foundation for Business Excellence, the National Quality Forum National Quality Health Care Advisory Committee, and the Joint Commission Health Care Professional Education Roundtable.
