World Views Collide
Yo
The Dark Knight is an epic, intense masterpiece that will keep you so
enthralled and so utterly gripped with what's taking place on the
screen that it left me physically worn out by the end of it. Then, when
it was all over, I couldn't help but think... The Hype Is Reality Mike Furches Other characters observe the battle within Batman and Wayne, but he has
to face serious difficulties before he realizes them. While The Joker
is pure evil, it is his own evil that forces Batman to come to serious
decisions and great sacrifices.
Wanna Watch the World Burn? Matt McEver The Joker has no hidden agenda. He is no hypocrite. The Joker sees his
role more as being the one to expose the discrepancy between internal
reality and external façade in the other characters. And Harvey Dent
becomes the case study...
The Dark Side of Deliverance Elisabeth Leitch We do need a savior, but we also need to believe that we have the power
to make a difference ourselves. Think of it as the difference between a
god whose power only acts over us versus one whose power and
inspiration also act in and through us all.

Mamma Mia!
The Importance of Fathers
Elisabeth Leitch
Who we become is up to us. We are the only ones who can figure out who
we are. But we live in a world of relationships, in between people who
have given pieces of themselves to us and people to whom we have given
pieces of ourselves.
Hellboy II: The Golden Army
Better the Second Time
Mike Furches
A message that hit home for me is the willingness of Hellboy to give up
his own comforts and desires to care for a population of people who
don't even like him, who mock him, spit on him, make fun of him. One
can't help but make some comparisons to Jesus.

The Spoiler Review
Jacob Sahms
What we have here is a whole lot of Will Smith, with a twin billing
with Charlize Theron. Warning: I'm going to wreck the movie for you if
you haven't seen it. I find it nearly impossible to talk about it
without revealing the movie's key twist.
WALL-E
Brutal Honesty
Jacob Sahms
Go see WALL·E.
Be prodded and poked. Don't expect to be entertained or spoon-fed or
even amused (though you will be amused a few times). But remember that
in parables and sometimes even cartoons, we can see the Gospel of
revelation and hope.
X-Files: I Want to Believe
We Want To Believe, Too
Preview by Maurice Broaddus
We want to believe that there is more to this world than we see or
that's been presented to us. We want to believe in magic and mystery,
even though some of us can't handle either. We want to be scared... and
we can't wait to have our faith tested July 25th.

The Ruins
Well, It Was Free
Jacob Sahms
What possessed me to watch this, you ask? Well, it was free, and I
thought that the book might be better in live-action. Maybe a giant
mess of vines could be better depicted by someone else other than my
Veggietales image of killer asparagus or runaway ivy.
Definitely, Maybe
Complicated? Most Certainly!
Nate Watts
The film is very realistic in a lot of ways: explaining to the next
generation how daddy met mommy appears to be getting harder and harder.
Will's story includes sleeping around, unfaithfulness, smoking, and
drinking. But fortunately, it also involves forgiveness. |
eMPULSE HJ Launches Electronic Media Review Service
It seems that only at present we've been able to
step back from our webmania to examine what lies before us. With iPods
and cell phones mushrooming in use as well, electronic media content is
catching on; but what are Americans doing with it? How do we know if
any of it is any good?
Whether you are tuning in to podcasts, reading ebooks, or doing Hulu, you might want to check out eMPULSE,
the new repository at Hollywood Jesus for all eMedia reviews. Scott
Roche is hosting, and already has a few ebook reviews and interviews up:
Drop in, and give him some feedback!
Also, you can receive a monthly eMPULSE newsletter by updating your subscriptions.
