LIVE FROM EUROPE CONTINUES…
Greg Myers, nosegrind.
We’re now one week deep into Live from Europe, our three-week summer trip across the continent. At dcskateboarding.tv we’re posting photo and video updates almost daily, so you should be visiting daily to stay up on what’s happening. With two separate DC crews trekking through some of Europe’s most major cities for demos, signings, and filming, there’s certainly a lot going on. Go here to catch up!
ALEX CAROLINO FOOTAGE AT dcskateboarding.tv
Straight out of the mail from Brazil, this week we’ve posted a new video clip of DC Brazil rider Alex Carolino at dcskateboarding.tv. It features the Brazilian ripper killing some of the country’s grimiest spots. Go here to check it out, and stay tuned as we get ready to head down to Brazil for DC King of Sao Paolo, the latest incarnation of our global amateur street skateboarding contest series.
NEW WORLD RECORD! RENNER BOOSTS OVER 59 FEET ON HIS DIRTBIKE
Morphed sequence of Renner's high jump over the Santa Monica festivities.
Last week DC moto’s Ronnie Renner launched himself out of a massive quarterpipe and set a new world record for highest air on a dirt bike. He boosted a huge 59’2” over the Santa Monica Pier to set the mark.

A part of the Red Bull Experiment series that sees motocross riders push the limits of the sport in new, unusual ways (remember Maddo’s football field jump a few months ago?), Ronnie took over the Santa Monica Pier for the staged boost. After setting a new record, Ronnie whipped once huge for the thousands of fans who turned out for the stunt. Go here to see some footage of the event on Red Bull’s YouTube page.

After flying his dirt bike to previously unknown heights, what’s next for Ronnie? X Games 14 is on the top of his hit list… check out some details below. Congrats Ronnie!
ANNOUNCING DC TEAM MEMBERS AT X GAMES 14
Danny, Adam, Daniel and Travis: just 4 of the 16 DC team riders earning invites to X Games 14 in just two weeks.

With 62 medals already won by DC riders over the course of summer X Games history, one of DC’s traditions is medal domination at the event. This year 16 DC team members have earned invites to the biggest event in action sports: X Games 14 in Los Angeles, CA on July 31-August 3.

In preparation for the contests and, hopefully, the winning of even more medals by DC team riders, this week we’re pleased to announce the full list of DC athletes that’ll be in L.A. Check it out here:
Danny Way
Competing In: Skateboard Big Air
As the originator of the MegaRamp concept (as seen in the DC Video), Danny brought the event to the X Games in 2004 and proceeded to dominate the event, winning Gold for the next three years. Sidelined last year with a knee injury, he’s back this summer with even more tricks, including no grab flip tricks over the MegaRamp’s massive gap (note the no-grab tre-flip on the cover of the August issue of TWS).

Dave Mirra
Competing In: BMX Freestyle SuperPark, BMX Freestyle Big Air, Rally Car Racing
After winning a Bronze medal in Park at last year’s X Games, Dave will try his hand in SuperPark and again this year in BMX Big Air. Dave, who’s often referred to as the best BMX rider to ever put foot to pedal, will be putting his foot to a different pedal at X14: a Rally car. Following in the footsteps of Pastrana, Dave’s been trading his bike for a rally car on occasion. Will his new high-adrenaline passion mean yet another medal at X Games?

Chad Kagy
Competing In: BMX Freestyle SuperPark, BMX Freestyle Big Air, BMX Freestyle Vert
In 2006 Chad took three medals at X Games: a gold in Vert, a silver in Vert Best Trick (flatspin 540 tailwhip!), and a silver in Big Air. Unfortunately he suffered a broken collarbone at during Big Air practice at last year’s X, but he’s better and stronger than ever for the ’08. A new threat: this season, Kagy can do most all his tricks the opposite way. Look out.

Chris Doyle
Competing In: BMX Freestyle SuperPark
With buttery smooth style and uber-clean trick execution, Chris is a favorite among fellow riders and true BMX followers. When X Games dropped Dirt Freestyle from the line up, Chris took a one-year break from X-action, but this year decided to return as one of the invited few to compete in the new SuperPark event.
Allan Cooke
Competing In: BMX Freestyle SuperPark, BMX Freestyle Big Air
A true ambassador for the sport of BMX with his Local Exposure Tour and one to always take a ballsy approach to competition, Allan took the bronze in 2006 in BMX Big Air. This year, he’ll be back on the MegaRamp’s 70-foot gap and huge quarterpipe, plus giving a go in the new SuperPark event.

Corey Bohan
Competing In: BMX Superpark
A dirt riding phenom, Corey won three straight golds in the X Games BMX Freestyle Dirt competition before the event was dropped from the line-up. He charged on outside of the X arena, remaining a rider favorite and earning Transworld’s “Number One Rider Award” (NORA Cup) every year for the last three years. With the addition of Superpark to the line-up he’s back at X, ready to extend his successes in an all-new riding genre.

Daniel Dhers
Competing In: BMX Freestyle Park
A relative unknown just a couple of years ago, Daniel exploded onto the scene and surprised everyone by winning the gold in BMX Park above a slew of very talented (and very experienced) riders. With a slew of other wins since then, you can’t help but think he’s the favorite to win it all this year on the park course.

Ricky Carmichael
Competing In: Moto X Step Up
The “GOAT,” or “Greatest of All Time.” The nickname says it all. After retiring from full time motocross racing action (with nearly every title under his belt, thank you), Ricky made his X Games debut last year. Simply put, he had way too much fun competing and easily taking the gold in Moto X Racing. Look for more of the same this year above the high bar of Moto X Step Up.
Nate Adams
Competing In: Moto X Freestyle, Moto X Best Trick, Moto X Speed and Style
Nate is a contest mainstay, seemingly always on the top of the standings with the ability to KO his competitors with precision and almost robot-like consistency. Last year he secured the silver in Freestyle despite a recently broken throttle finger. This year he’s back for more in the events he’s proven himself a success—Best Trick and Freestyle—plus Speed and Style.

Adam Jones
Competing In: Moto X Freestyle, Moto X Best Trick
Coming in hot off two medals at last year’s X Games (even beating his teammate Nate Adams in the FMX finals), Adam is now recovered and fully healthy after a gnarly crash at the end of 2007. Last year he unveiled the stripper flip and the shaolin flip to take his medals… what will he bring to the table this year?

Jeremy McGrath
Competing In: Moto X Racing
Showtime! Jeremy, since retiring from full time racing a few years ago, has become an ambassador to the sport of motocross, returning to compete in select events much to the fans’ delight. With so much experience under his belt consider MC a major threat in Moto X Racing.

Dustin Miller
Competing In: Moto X Speed and Style
With trademark amazing style on his bike, could there be a better event-fit for Dustin than Moto X Speed and Style? Look for good things from him at this summer’s X Games in the event.
Ronnie Renner
Competing In: Moto X Step Up, Moto X Best Whip, Moto X Speed and Style
With the sickest whips in the game and the ability to fly awfully high on his bike, Ronnie is a top threat in Moto X Step Up and Moto X Best Whip. Will that skill set carry over to Speed and Style? Should be interesting…

Robbie Maddison
Competing In: Moto X Freestyle
Hailing from Australia, Robbie “Mad Dog” Madison gained global fame earlier this year when he soared his bike goalpost-to-goalpost over a football field for a Red Bull promotion. He bagged a world record for that effort… at X 14 he’ll look to translate those long-jump skills to a coveted Moto X Freestyle medal.

Travis Pastrana
Competing In: Moto X Speed and Style, Rally Car Racing
He’s double backflipped. He’s won countless FMX contests. He’s the two-time reigning Rally America National Champ. Casually moving from motorcycles to rally cars and back again, Travis is nothing short of a serious threat in every event he competes in. This year he’ll be charging in Moto X Speed and Style and back for another medal in Rally Car Racing (2006, gold; 2007, bronze).

Ken Block
Competing In: Rally Car Racing
Known to DC employees as the guy who co-founded the brand over 15 years ago, Ken’s picked up fans over the last couple of years as a top rally car racer. Racing for Subaru Rally Team USA, Ken scored an X Games bronze two years ago and a silver medal last year. See the progression? Guess what color medal Ken’s aiming for this summer? Stay tuned!

NEW FOOTY OF DHERS AT HOME IN VENEZUELA

We all know that Daniel Dhers is from Venezuela. But, unfortunately, it’s fairly rare to see footy of him at home because it’s so darn far away… Venezuela isn’t your standard BMX trip destination. However, this week we’re in luck: ridebmx.com is offering a chance to check some of that rare footage of Daniel at home via a new Red Bull video edit on their site. Go here to watch it!

SHINODA UNVEILS NEW ART EXHIBIT, DC PROJECT IN L.A.
Outside.

Last Friday the Japanese American National Museum in Downtown Los Angeles got taken over and Hollywood frivolity got blown a serious slap in the face. Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park and DC opened “Glorious Excess,” an exhibition of Mike’s new mixed-media work.

Mike with his new limited edition shoes, which feature his art underneath custom sole tooling created just for this project

Open to the public now through August 3, the show corresponds with the release of Mike’s second Artist Project™ shoe with DC. The limited edition version of the shoe is hitting select retailers now, with more versions released over the next 6 months.

Just as Mike’s new DC shoe is a juxtaposition of his varied backgrounds (Japanese vs. American upbringing, art education vs. global music success), his art and DC shoe unveiling in L.A. was a mash-up of various cultures and influences. It’s refreshing to see tattooed-dressed-to-the-nines L.A. scene-types chatting it up with honorable, distinguished members of the Japanese American community. Isn’t that one of the goals of art—to bring different groups of people together?

Upon entry to the exhibit you’re greeted with a Shinoda-created collage of tabloid tears—Paris and Britney and rehab stints and Branjelina dramas—that set the tone for the rest of the show’s walk-through. Moving on and exploring the rest of the pieces you follow a character as he lives his life of glorious excess. There’s the sex, the drugs, the rock and roll, and all the good and all the bad that goes along with those vices. Shinoda enjoyed the irony of the show's theme extending even into the food--which seemed to tempt everyone with the "glorious" good life--as they washed down filet carpaccio on wonton crisps with $8 Asahi beers.

DC BMX team rider Chad Kagy was so impressed that he purchased a piece from the collection on the spot. “I flew all the way out here from the east coast just for this show,” he said.

As the show was wrapping, Mike swung the double doors wide open to let the fans in. Forming a line some 300-deep, fans showed up as early as noon for the 8:30 signing. Always appreciative of his Linkin Park Underground fans and gracious to the end, he signed for all those interested.

PASTRANA DODGES TROUBLES; TAKES RALLY AMERICA POINTS LEAD!
Steady as she goes... Pastrana at mach 4 around a New England corner.

Last weekend Travis Pastrana earned 3rd place at New England Forest Rally, a strong finish that vaults him into the lead of the 2008 Rally America National Championship. It’s a great place to be for Travis, who’s defending as reigning champ and trying to make it three-straight National Championships.

New England Forest Rally is notorious for its rocky treacherous roads as it weaves its way over 100 miles along the New Hampshire/Maine border. While many drivers found wrecks, damaged cars, and other troubles because of the gnarly roads, Travis slipped past any major issues with conservative driving. The only exception was punctured tire that turned into a flat tire that turned into an on-the-rim stage finish. Despite the issue, TP earned a solid podium spot.

"I took a steady approach since I needed some miles in the new car and that strategy paid off because so many other drivers had problems," said Travis.

Travis’ DC rally teammate, Ken Block—not so lucky at New England Forest Rally. He was having a great rally as he got even more experience behind the wheel of his new '08 Subaru WRX STI, running 2nd and enjoying a tight back-and-forth battle with former PWRC champ Niall McShae. After persevering through a punctured tire, he hit a rather large rock in the road and damaged his front suspension. The issue was enough to permanently make Ken retire from the weekend’s racing. Ken said, ""To be able to run against McShea and keep up with him, I think, validates our sport in America, McShea is world-class... I wish we would have been able to fight all the way to the finish because I think we could have won it."

Next up rally-wise for Travis and Ken is X Games 14 is Los Angeles. Stay tuned for results, and go here for more photos from last weekend’s New England Forest Rally.
