Dear Global Exchange Supporter, During the past few weeks, we have witnessed the U.S and Israel drive tensions with Iran closer and closer to a military conflict. From increased covert operations to the tune of $400 million, to the "Iran War Resolutions" currently being considered by Congress--calling for a naval blockade of Iran--to Israeli officials threatening an attack and the recent mock attack exercise of Iranian nuclear facilities, now is the time for action. Thanks to your help, since Global Exchange and peace groups around the country raised the alarm about Congress's "Iran War Resolutions," two congressional reps have already removed their sponsorship for the bill. But we can't stop there, because more than any other issue currently blazing the headlines, you and the peace movement have the power to prevent war and effect the outcome of the US-Iran conflict. During July 19th-21st, join Global Exchange and UFPJ member groups for National Days of Action to prevent war with Iran. Take Action: July 19th-21st 1. Lobby Congress! On Monday July 21st, National Lobby Day:
2. Pass a Peace Resolution! Get your mayor to pass a Cities for Peace resolution in your city, then get them to join GX's delegation of US Mayors to lobby Congress in the fall. Local Government is important and influential. 3. Petition Senator Obama! Encourage Obama to continue pushing for diplomacy with Iran instead of disastrous military action. 4. Hold the Press Accountable! Iran is in the news everyday. During the national days of action, write a letter to the editor of your local/national paper. 5. Attend or Organize an Event in your Community! Create a visual presence against going to war with Iran by organising a vigil, a human billboard or a demonstration. Learn more about the U.S.-Iran conflict by reading, Iran in the Crosshairs by Foreign Policy in Focus. Learn more about diplomatic solutions to the conflict. Read "An Alternative to an Israeli Attack on Iran" by Shlomo Ben-Ami and Trita Parsi. Thank you, as always, for your work on behalf of peace & justice. Global Exchange |
