[1] Enhance your career: Study physics part-time with the OU

Anyone working in science, IT or engineering could benefit
from a better understanding of physics. At The Open
University, we offer a range of flexible part-time physics
courses that enable you to gain new skills and knowledge.
Start with either Exploring science or The physical world.
You could even work towards a Diploma or Degree in Physical
Science. The quality and flexibility of our Science courses
attracts over 20,000 science students each year, with over
70% of our students combining study with full or part-time
work, join them- order a prospectus today.

[2] Portable hygrometers measure moisture, humidity and dewpoint

Michell's portable and handheld instruments offer a wide
measurement range, are easy to use and provide a fast
response. The range offers a wide variety of instruments
capable of measuring moisture, humidity and dewpoint in a
wide range of applications and industries. A guide is
available providing a synopsis of each product, application
information and the technology used to help users select the
best instrument for their specific application requirements.

[3] Humidity Indicator paper signals a range of humidity readings

Brownell has developed a range of humidity indicator papers
for monitoring and displaying the relative humidity within
enclosed spaces such as display cases and storage boxes. The
humidity strips will also monitoring the effectiveness of
desiccant bags and drying agents used to control the
relative humidity. The humidity indicator papers are
available with measurement range of 10% to 60 %. The general
relative humidity level used in industry for humidity
protection is to maintain a dryness of less than 50%.

[4] Delivering the perfect OEM pump

OEM peristaltic pumps are self-priming, dry running and act
as their own check valve. This avoids the cost and
complication of ancillaries such as dry run sensors, flow
meters and expensive metallurgy. Watson-Marlow Bredel work
with you to select an OEM pump that exactly meets your needs
and budget, with flow rates ranging from microlitres to 12
litre/minute.

[5] Free White Paper - Introduction to Data Acquisition

The DAQ experts at United Electronic Industries (developers
of our new ingenious 'Cube' device) have released the first
in a series of three white papers called 'Everything You
Ever Wanted to Know about Data Acquisition'. Part One
explains the basic concept of data acquisition, focusing
primarily on analogue inputs. The paper covers popular
system types, A/D conversion, input channel configuration,
simultaneous sampling, accuracy specifications, sample rate,
input range, etc. It goes on to cover temperature
measurements as well as strain (and stress) measurements in
detail.

[6] Machine Vision Handbook Available

The latest issue of the free 'Vision Elements Machine
Vision Handbook' is available from Firstsight Vision. With
40% more information than the previous edition, each section
features a comprehensive 'technology overview'. Sections
on PC systems for vision technology, filters, high speed
imaging, UV and IR lighting, GigE Vision and GeniCam
technology have been added. The handbook is designed for
engineers to keep on their shelves to help with the
selection of machine vision technology.

[7] Free Measurement, Control and Automation Handbook UK Edition

Produced specifically for the UK, Omega's NEW hard-covered
book contains over 1000 pages of products and technical
reference material. If there's a parameter you need to
measure, the chances are you will find the appropriate
sensors and instrumentation in this book. Sensors are
available for Temperature, Pressure, Force, Strain, Flow,
Level, pH and Conductivity, with PID Controllers, Recorders,
Meters and Data Loggers to match. There's also a range of
Electric Heaters, PLC's, HMI's and all associated automation
products such as Pneumatic Grippers and Slides, Stepper
Motors, DIN rail Terminal Blocks and Push-Buttons.

[8] Mirror publishing achieves 46% energy saving on compressed air

After installing EnergAir's Metacentre system Trinity
Mirror's energy consumption reduced dramatically. Site
audits show energy use by the compressed air system has
dropped by 46% translating into a saving of over 115,000 GBP
pa. EnergAir's Metacentre can be installed in virtually all
compressed air systems. You can check the savings on your
system now online by clicking below.

[9] Gauge checks wear on chains

Complying with today's stringent safety requirements for FLT
chains can be a headache for health and safety
representatives. Chaintec has developed a chain wear gauge
that operates in accordance with the latest regulations.
Using the gauge, health and safety representatives can
monitor wear rates, co-ordinate replacement schedules and be
alerted to potential safety concerns before they arise.
Chaintec's chain wear gauge measures over 10 pitches and
works with chains supplied by Chaintec and all other
manufacturers.

[10] New White Paper from Moog

In a new white paper entitled "Achieving High Performance: A
Collaborative Approach for Motion Control Solutions", Robert
Luong, Moog's Product Marketing Manager discusses the
challenges high performance machine designs pose for
engineers responsible for motion control. The White Paper
objectively reviews the trends that are making high
performance motion control ever more challenging and complex
for design engineers. It also analyses the trend amongst
engineers from defining motion control in terms of
individual products and specific technologies towards a more
solutions-based approach. A copy of the white paper can be
downloaded by clicking below.

[11] Solenoid offers increased stability

The use of a permanent magnet instead of a spring has
resulted in a bistable rotary solenoid from Geeplus, which
has a significant increase in speed of operation. Because
the more common rotary solenoid devices use a spring to
provide force for return operations, the available torque
for forward operation is reduced in overcoming the strength
of the spring itself. The use of an electrically driven
permanent magnet rotor in this device, provides fully
energised torque which is available for the fastest rotation
in either direction.

[12] Shaft seals prevent dirt ingress and fluid loss

Dichtomatik manufactures an extensive range of rotary shaft
seals using both elastomer and PTFE materials. Rubber
encased metal inserts and spring energised sealing lips
ensure leak-free housing location as well as positive
sealing contact with rotating surfaces to prevent dirt
ingress or fluid loss. Metal cased seals with ground, drawn
or turned finishes provide a tighter press-fit housing
allowance. When combined with metal inserts, these seals are
suitable for difficult installations or hostile operating
conditions as well as for the production of larger dimension
sealing products.
