caroline herring

Well folks - we've got a special treat for our email list  - a FREE SHOW!  That's right - FREE.  We've never done a special like this before - but it's summertime, and we want you to come out and check out a new artist - CAROLINE HERRING.  Caroline is one of the newest artists on the Signature Sounds roster (the label that has brought you Josh Ritter, Mark Erelli, Eilen Jewell, Lori McKenna, Kris Delmhorst, Erin McKeown, Mary Gauthier, Crooked Still, Peter Mulvey, Chris Smither, Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer, Richard Shindell, etc.), so you know that the quality is high from the get-go.  She hasn't done much touring in the northeast yet, but we're bringing her to Club Passim because we KNOW you're going to love her.  So call this a take-a-chance night!  All you need to do is respond to this email with your name and how many tickets you'd like - or print out the email and bring it to the show - and you get in for FREE.  No tricks.  FREE.

Here's a little of what the press has to say about her...

"Crafted with timeless elegance and graceful confidence, Caroline Herring's Lantana is the best modern Southern Gothic since Lucinda Williams' Sweet Old World." - Margaret Moser, The Austin Chronicle

"Caroline Herring has quietly carved her own country-folk niche, with minimalist, bluegrass-inflected sound and homespun sophistication." - Thomas Kintner,
Hartford Courant

Check her out yourselves at www.carolineherring.com

The show is THIS WEDNESDAY - JULY 16th at 8pm

The amazing Naomi Sommers will be opening!

Tuesday 7/15 7pm & 10pm : Grant-Lee Phillips, David McMillin opens
Reg: $25/Member: $23
Since the start of his solo career, the former Grant Lee Buffalo front man has gone on to release critically acclaimed albums, toured the globe several times over, composed musical scores for various independent films and television shows and has even become a recurring character on the WB's Gilmore Girls.  Most striking is the manner in which Phillips continues to evolve, each album offering a new flower of growth and confidence.

Wednesday 7/16 8pm: Caroline Herring, Naomi Sommers opens
Reg: $free with this email!/Member: $
free with this email!
Caroline Herring digs deep into the rich soil of American roots music for her sound, and deep into the recesses of her own consciousness for her themes. The musically understated, psychologically intense songs of this Atlanta-based Mississippi native ponder the eternal verities while probing the complex nature of contemporary existence; she delivers them in a fine-grained alto replete with the residue of hard-earned insight.

& Friday 7/18 7pm (SOLD OUT) & 10pm (ALMOST SOLD OUT):
Crooked Still
Reg: $30/Member: $28
"Rock energy coexists with old-time mountain soul. Spooky backwoods melodies combine with hip hard-hitting beats. Raw, searing blues riffs intermingle with high heavenly vocals. Meet Crooked Still, the hot young alternative bluegrass group on a mission to bend the boundaries of traditional music.

Saturday 7/19 8pm: Tim Gearan
Reg: $12/Member: $10
Tim's wide range of writing styles is a reflection of the music he loves to listen to, with influences ranging from Randy Newman, and J. J. Cale to Ray Charles and The Band. Comparisons have also been made to Doug Sahm, Guy Clarke and Chris Smither.
Call it American music, rich in the traditions that have surrounded this talented songwriter. With a gifted cast of musicians, Tim has crafted a refreshing but familiar acoustic down-home feel that will continue to connect with audiences for years.
