------------------ COMPETITIONS ------------------

MY STREET PROJECT - ABC RADIO NATIONAL
Think about the street in which you live or another Australian street that you love, hate or are fascinated by. Then think about telling the stories that belong on that street in words, pictures, video or sound - the choice is yours. The possibilities are tantalising. ABC Radio National’s Street Stories program wants to bring the stories of our streets together through My Street. My Street is a new multimedia project that will enable stories to be shared by everyone, no matter where they are in Australia, at www.abc.net.au/rn/mystreet.

Share a story from your street with My Street, from 22 June, and the best entry will win the chance to work with the Street Stories team to produce a radio documentary about your street, or another mutually agreed topic. All entries will be available to view on the My Street website as soon as they are uploaded. The competition closes on 7 November 2008.

------------------ FILM REVIEWS ------------------

MAMMA MIA! [11/07/2008]
ABC North Qld
When it comes to durability in the entertainment world, it's pretty hard to go past the music of Swedish pop group ABBA, and the acting career of Meryl Streep.
http://www.abc.net.au/local/reviews/2008/07/11/2300912.htm

THE COUNTERFITTERS [10/07/2008]
ABC Adelaide
Films set during World War II often come laden with extraordinarily heavy emotional baggage, and while 'The Counterfeiters' isn't exactly an exception to this rule, it at least provides as uplifting and humanist a message as is possible, given its setting and subject matter.
http://www.abc.net.au/local/reviews/2008/07/10/2300593.htm

GOODBYE BAFANA [09/07/2008]
ABC Adelaide
A big-screen movie based on a memoir written by Nelson Mandela's jailer sounds like an odd prospect in some ways; without knowing much about the white South-African man, James Gregory, who watched over Mandela during his 27 years in prison, one might think that the film had been based on the wrong man's memoir.

UP THE YANGTZE [10/07/2008]
At the Movies
Up the Yangtze may sound like the title of a very old-fashioned comedy but it is in fact a documentary by Canadian filmmaker Yung Chang whose family emigrated from China two generations ago.

BLOODLETTING AND MIRACULOUS CURES BY VINCENT LAM (REVIEW) [10/07/2008]
Kirsten Alexander: The story of how young Canadian medical doctor Vincent Lam found an advocate for his first book of short stories, Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures, is this: Dr Lam was working as the ship's physician on a Russian scientific vessel occasionally used to transport nature-lovers to the Arctic; one of the passengers was Margaret Atwood.
