Austrian Animal Activists Need Our Help

The "Wiener Neustadt Ten" were remanded to two more months of preliminary detention at a hearing yesterday, compounding a major disaster for Austria's system of justice. Invigorated worldwide protests are being planned throughout the Western world.

The ten Austrian animal rights activists, arrested in commando-style night-time raids on May 21st, are being held without charges or evidence, despite year-long surveillance, e-mail interceptions, and phone taps. One of them, President of the Austrian Association Against Animal Factories Dr. Martin Balluch, has been on a prolonged life-threatening hunger strike.

FARM has been coordinating U.S. protests, along with In Defense of Animals, League of Conservation Voters, and Win Animals Rights. The protests include meetings, letters, and demonstrations at the Austrian embassy, consulates, and tourist offices, as well as letters to the editor comparing the Austrian action to the U.S. detentions at Guantanamo.

Visit the VGT site for more details. Contact us to learn what you can do.

Start Planning for World Farm Animals Day

Each year, 50 billion land animals are killed worldwide for their flesh, milk, and eggs. On or around October 2nd, activists in all 50 states and two dozen other countries will observe World Farm Animals Day (WFAD) to expose the needless suffering and deaths imposed on animals by factory farms and slaughterhouses.

Join the global outcry this October, as we memorialize the innocent individuals who accounts for 98% of all animal abuse by humans. WFAD observances include vigils, protests, cage-ins, die-ins, funeral marches, video screenings, fasts, memorial services, leafleting, and info tables.

Don't miss this chance to be part of an international day of action to raise awareness about the moral, environmental, and health hazards of animal agriculture… start planning now.

Visit www.WFAD.org to find out more.
