On June 30th, the doors at the Nokia plant in Bochum closed for good,
leaving 2,300 workers out of a job. Siemens, Germany's engineering giant,
announced last week that it would be cutting up to 15,000 jobs worldwide,

German Unemployment Falls in June, Surprising Forecasters
German unemployment fell more than forecast to a 16-year-low in June, the
nation's labour agency said Tuesday, adding to signs that Europe's biggest
economy is withstanding softer world economic growth.
