Dear Raquelle,
Our web migration is now complete - the School Travel website now sits on the main Sustrans site, but you can still use www.saferoutestoschools.org.uk.
We hope that the site will be easier to navigate around and provide the most relevant resources, news and information relating to current school travel issues and initiatives. It also provides direct links to all of Sustrans' great work, such as the Bike It project and National Cycle Network.
Use the links below to get a feel for the site. It will continue to evolve and we will soon be posting a survey to get your feedback on any more improvements we could make... there'll be an incentive to contribute, so keep your eye out!

>>Tell us you'll swap! Between 30 June - 5 July. If we all switch just one car journey each week to walking, cycling, public transport or even car-share, we can reduce traffic by 10%. Pretty simple stuff, so why not join in and pledge your intention at the Change Your World website It takes but 30 seconds, we won't send you anything (unless you want) and of course it's free! Then we'll let Gordon Brown know how many of us really do want to change our world...

>>Backseat Children A highly revealing report from the folks at the Walk to School campaign. Simple, compelling, concise, it reveals the real danger behind driving our kids around too much... and it isn't to the ones outside the car! Left with little road sense, independence or knowledge of their local environment, they are at far greater risk as they get older. Rather than dwell on the negatives, the report also details the benefits of getting on your own two feet, and the desire amongst children to get out of the car!

>>Competitions! Mountain bikes, Christmas cards (of your own design), cold hard cash and oodles of kudos to be won... Design our Sustrans Christmas card (deadline 22nd Sept, not July as per flyer) or a pair of Doc Martin boots to walk in! For Welsh schools, download our English or Welsh flyer and let us know about your ideal route to school, by painting or manifesto, to win a mountain bike - hurry, closes 11th July!
|
>>Health headlines Some good news this time! Active children lower their risk for heart-disease as adults, and men who walk or cycle are less likely to die from cancer... all on our News page.
|
>>Events A few new things to pop in your diary for next year, otherwise just take a look around our new Events section and perhaps take a wander through the magic link into the main Sustrans one!
|
>> Contact Us If you have any questions on the school journey, would like to receive our newsletter (Routes 2 Action) by mail or perhaps get the details of your Local Authority's School Travel Advisor, please call us on 0117 915 0100, or email schools@sustrans.org.uk If you have a story you'd like to see on the Safe Routes to Schools website, email Alistair Goulding.

>>> Sustrans recommends... Sustrans uses Good Energy because all their electricity is from renewable sources. This further reduces our impact on the environment which is what Sustrans is all about. If you switch your electricity supply to Good Energy 100% renewable electricity they will donate £30 to Sustrans for every new domestic customer, and up to £120 for a business.

Our vision is a world in which people can choose to travel in ways that benefit their health and the environment. Every day we are working on practical, innovative ways of dealing with the transport challenges that affect us all. |
