Hey Shanghai!

Hey buddies. What's with this rain. Seriously. What's with it. Kinda makes you want to stay home a curl up with a good copy of "Zombie Strippers."

So many club openings this weekend I can't even keep track of them all. I've been on the horn all day solidifying myself free drinks, because that's how I do.

BLOC, which is the new concept of the old Volar is having their grand opening party. That's on Saturday. Bar Hulu, which is the old Mundo Latino, is opening, brought to you by the Emmy-award winning team behind Bar Rouge. That's also on Saturday at 7pm. MAO's got their one-year anniversary party on Saturday as well. That should be a good one. Every single DJ ever is slated for half hour sets on their decks.

AND Marcus Schultz is performing at M2 on Saturday. He's like 13th in the world at DJing (#4 in rebounds, #9 in assists). AND a spot of comedy with Shanghai Dave Friday and Saturday at Racks.

So as you can see there's a fair bit going on. Hang on. Whoops. Here's more. Shanghai Soundbites photo book launch at YY"s on Saturday at 4pm (article on that here). And the launch of a new monthly (I think) at The Shelter (article here).

Live music is a little more sparse this weekend than the clubbing stuff, but old school punk rockers Mortal Fools are playing tonight at Zhijiang Dream Factory, and tomorrow night is new indie rock band The Collars at LOgO and GALA at Yuyintang. The Collars do Brian Jonestown Massacre covers, so I kind of want to see that. And some dude was telling me last night at the bar that GALA is also pretty good, so we'll see.

Keep your eye on the new Bulldog, they've got some big ones p***d in the coming weeks. Not the least of which is a US Independence Day bash. Guess they're finally making up with the colonies for that one.

Speaking of that, anyone see that John Adams HBO mini-series? Exhaustive.

Speaking of national celebrations, an early Happy Canada Day to all you Canadians out there in radio land. 141 years of givin'er.

Your reign on the top was short like leprechauns,

Joke of the week

A young reporter went to a retirement home to interview an aged but legendary explorer. The reporter asked the old man to tell him the most frightening experience he had ever had.

The old explorer said, "Once I was hunting Bengal tigers in the jungles of India. I was on a narrow path and my faithful native gun bearer was behind me. Suddenly the largest tiger I have ever seen leaped onto the path in front of us. I turned to get my weapon only to find the native had fled. The tiger lept toward me with a mighty ROARRRR! I soiled myself."

The reporter said, "Under those circumstances anyone would have done the same."

The old explorer said, "No, not then -- just now when I went ''''ROARRRR!''''"
