GO SKATEBOARDING DAY AT THE PLAZA IN KETTERING
Thousands Turn Out; Check the footage/photos at dcskateboarding.tv
As you know last Saturday was Go Skateboarding Day, with tons of skateboarders taking over streets worldwide. DC did a little takeover as well: joining Active and Alien Workshop, we threw a huge event at the Rob Dyrdek/DC Shoes Skate Plaza in Kettering, Ohio.
Dyrdek and Kalis signed for hours...
Things couldn’t have gone better! About a thousand turned out to skate. A few more thousand turned out to support and score a free hot dog. And a few thousand more came to grab an autograph from Dyrdek, Kalis, Robertson, Smith and the rest of the DC, Workshop, and Active teams—the line to get something signed was ridiculous.
Got tricks? Got paid.
The autograph line was one thing; the skating was on another level. Kids were ripping. With 20 bucks getting passed out for legit tricks and bigger bills getting passed out for bangers, kids were throwing down for the loot on the four stair, 12 stair, the manny pad, and the million other elements the Plaza offers. Unfortunately, some kids got carted away with head wounds and tweaked ankles instead of cash.

Check out dcskateboarding.tv for the photos plus a video edit of some highlights from the day. Thank you so much to everyone that came out—plus Active and AWS—for making the whole day so rad!

DHERS TAKES PARK WIN, KAGY 2ND IN VERT AT DEW TOUR KICKOFF
A few years ago Dhers was an unknown rider. Now look at him!
Last weekend was the start to the annual AST Dew Tour summer season, and DC BMX riders represented well at the Baltimore event. Daniel Dhers kept the winning going by taking the win in Park, and Chad Kagy brought a new trick or two to take 2nd in Vert.

The BMX Park finals was nothing short of Days of Our Lives drama. Daniel, the two-time consecutive Dew Tour champ, was clearly a favorite coming into finals. But his first run was a throw away, putting him way down in 11th as he got ready for his final run. With the nerves running high and the crowd putting the pressure on, Daniel gathered himself and came through with a great run… certainly enough to leap frog the rest of the field and take the win.
Kagy.
Over in Vert Kagy was looking solid. His first run included a mix of classics—barspin to tailwhip, flatspin flair whip—and new, like his opposite flair whip. He gave a go at a barspin flair, but just missed it. In his second run he threw down, attempting a double tailwhip flatspin flair but sketched out on the landing. (If he gets that trick in future events he’ll be downright deadly).

NATE ADAMS: 2ND PLACE AT DEW TOUR KICKOFF
Nate Adams, stripper flip, a trick invented by his DC teammate, Adam Jones.
Coming in hot off an overall FMX win for the ‘07 Dew Tour series and being named the tour’s Athlete of the Year, Nate Adams kicked off the ’08 AST Dew Tour series with a 2nd place finish at last weekend’s stop in Baltimore.

With riders from different parts of the world invading the Dew Tour FMX scene in Baltimore, the finals on Sunday was an international affair. Nate had to duke it out with some serious new talent, but thanks to a clean stripper flip and a series of other precise, dialed Nate tricks he was able to hold down the second podium spot.

The AST Dew Tour takes a one-month break before resuming for round 2 on July 17 in Cleveland, OH. Stay tuned to this Newsclip and www.astdewtour.com for more updates and results.

LONGEST KIMMY FASANI INTERVIEW EVER?

Kimmy Fasani from the DC women’s snow team sat down with Pat at Snowboarder Magazine for a casual (and quite long) question and answer. They chat about living in Mammoth (or Tahoe), being a student athlete, self-imposed pressures, and the upcoming Runway project. Go here.

NOT 1 BUT 4 DANE REYNOLDS THINGS IN SURFING

With the mags going absolutely giddy for Dane Reynolds over the last year, this month the folks at Surfing Magazine decided to keep the love going by featuring him not once but four times in their new issue. First: Dane’s psychology of winning, where he talks about competitive pressures among the world’s (other) top contest surfers. Second: a stormy sequence of a kerrupt flip on p.168. Third: he tells us how he stays sharp on the road and shares some damn good mandatory reading. Last: Dane talks us through a heavy, thigh-slicing wipeout that sent him to the ER for 13 stitches.

Check it all in the Aug ’08 issue of Surfing, hitting shops now.

DILLON PERILLO: NATIONALS DAY TWO STANDOUT

Despite an interference call and some pretty terrible wave conditions at Lowers for NSSA Nationals, DC am Dillion Perillo earned the “Standout of the Day” nod from the folks at Surfline. Check out their site for a short video edit, including the scoop on how the interference went down and how he then progressed through to surf another day at Nationals. Go here.
