| Adirondack Park was established by New York State in 1892, and is the largest park in the lower 48 states. While there are numerous inholdings in the park, they are tightly regulated, keeping the park "forever wild." The Adirondack region offers thousands of lakes and ponds, thousands of miles of trails and rivers, and hundreds of campgrounds and resorts. It's a great place to hike, fish, canoe, or kayak, especially now through autumn. Select trails are open for bikes, horses, and winter sports. We have five detailed Trails Illustrated maps covering the park, available individually in print versions, or combined in one digital product. |
