[011] - Detangler 0.2
by DeNova (http://freshmeat.net/users/denovasale/)
Tue, Jun 17th 2008 17:10
About: Detangler is a Java Swing thread debugger. It solves problems such
as incomplete and incorrect displays, events happening in the wrong order,
gray windows, lockups, and slow response that gets slower with more use.
These symptoms are usually caused by incorrect Swing threading, and thread
bugs are the hardest to find. Detangler finds those tough bugs for you so
that your application runs smoothly and quickly.
Changes: No changes to the application are needed to use Detangler. Bug
reports were made much clearer, with exact line numbers. Java applications
that were compiled without debugging turned on are now handled. Feedback
was added to the uninstaller. Minor bugs were fixed.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: The Envers project makes it simple to version (JPA) entities. The
only thing required is annotating them with @Versioned. Storing historical
data (versions) is completely transparent to the developer, and the
entities may be handled as always. Not only basic properties of an entity
can be versioned, but also relations, making it possible to view parts of
the database as they were at a given revision. Moreover, Envers provides a

Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: JPPF is a computational grid framework for Java focused on
performance and ease of use. It provides a set of tools and APIs to enable
the parallelization of CPU intensive applications, and distribute their
execution over a network of heterogenous nodes. It features platform
independence thanks to Java 1.5, does not require you to deploy your
application classes to a server, scales up to millions of nodes, has a
built-in fail-over mechanism on all the framework's components, and has a
monitoring and administration GUI tool to enable remote monitoring of the
server health and server shutdown/restart operations.
Changes: A critical bug that caused the server to freeze unexpectedly was
resolved. A packaging issue was fixed for the Tomcat port. The
administration and monitoring console now comes as a separate standalone
package. The server now stores on file any data too large to fit in memory.
A new abstraction model for IO operations brings a smaller footprint and a
performance gain up to 15%. JPPF library files now include version and
build information.

features include fully lightweight components with transparency and
effects, classes for strings, containers, XML, streams, file handling,
messaging, and event queues, vector graphics, a custom font engine, image
manipulation, OpenGL support, low-latency audio I/O using CoreAudio, DSound
and ASIO, audio buffers and nodes, MIDI file and event manipulation,
Internet streams, undo/redo support, and more.
Changes: Lots of new features and fixes were made, including audio graph
classes, QuickTime movie readers, embedded web browsing, better audio

by Magnus Kulke (http://freshmeat.net/users/mkulke/)
Tue, Jun 17th 2008 13:26
Database :: Front-Ends
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: Mescaline is a PHP Web application and framework that makes data
stored in databases available to users. The interfaces for viewing and
editing the data are created without requiring any coding or config file
editing using a wizard. It works with unconventional databases and can be
easily extended and reused, since it is written in object-oriented PHP.
Changes: The code was cleaned up and a more consistent MVC pattern was
implemented. Improvements include the possibility to hide fields and better
handling of errors and strings. Several issues are fixed, including a
problem when values were automatically put into empty fields and the
incorrect display of big tables. Tables now remain sorted and at the
correct location after editing.

[043] - Ruby/AWS 0.3.2

Tue, Jun 17th 2008 08:49
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
Software Development :: Libraries :: Ruby Modules
About: Ruby/AWS is a high-level Ruby language interface to the Amazon
Associates Web Service API v4. It aims to automate and remove the grunt
work of interacting with the Amazon API and, in so doing, make it much
easier to use. Ruby/AWS is the successor to Ruby/Amazon.
Changes: Serialisation, e.g. with Marshal and YAML, has been a problem
until now. This is because subclasses of Amazon::AWS::AWSObject are created
as needed when XML responses from AWS are parsed. Whilst there is no
problem dumping objects instantiated from such classes, the difficulty
arises when later loading and attempting to reinstantiate them in a new
process, because the dynamic classes that spawned them no longer exist. The
solution to the problem comes in the form of the new methods
Amazon::AWS::AWSObject.load and Amazon::AWS::AWSObject.yaml_load.

[045] - The SirBot Project 0.2.2
by SirLoon (Sébastien Lelong) (http://freshmeat.net/users/SirLoon/)
Tue, Jun 17th 2008 08:42
Scientific/Engineering
Software Development
About: The SirBot Project provides an easy way to build, program, control,
and monitor amateur robots. Programming a bot is done writing a Python
class. A declaration protocol syntax is used to define what can be done
(primitive/complex actions). Using a Python CLI, the robot can be
interactively controlled and dynamically programmed. While the bot is
performing several actions, every piece of information is able to produce
events, thanks to the event declaration syntax. Events can also be created
from other events (cascading events), conditionnaly triggered under
specific conditions (pre-condition), and activate user-defined actions
(post-conditions) according to a particular event state. The library
provides detailed instructions to build electronic boards (PIC-based) and
connect them to build a robot.
Changes: The mainboard now has an integrated i2c bus. A new DC motor
controller board can drive h-bridges, be accessed through serial or i2c,
and control (PWM) and monitor (back-EMF analysis) the motor's speed. Board
documentation now includes Eagle diagrams. SirBot's Jal libraries API has
been simplified.
