Inside this issue... Enjoying Family Time Hi Raquelle, One day when my niece Mary Jo was about two, I was playing with her when her daddy came home from work. The minute she heard the garage door open, she immediately dropped everything and went running to greet him, shouting “Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!” at the top of her lungs. It’s one of the sweetest things I’ve ever seen. We recently had a health scare with my dad. I went to visit him, and when I saw him at the airport, all I wanted was run to him like Mary Jo ran to her dad. While I was with my dad, we watched some of his favorite films (Looney Tunes' episodes and World War II adventures!). If laughter is the best medicine, he should be healed by now. Enjoying entertainment together as a family is a great way to introduce kids to history, to talk about what's happening in our culture, and to create shared memories. Can you ever make something that will please readers who have imagined entire worlds in their minds? And just to keep things interesting, what if the author of this series is your stepfather? Facing the challenge of bringing The Chronicles of Narnia to the big screen is something perhaps only fit for the stepson of C.S. Lewis, Douglas Gresham. After his mother married C.S. Lewis, Douglas found himself living in the kingdom of Narnia. Now, many years later, he teamed with Walden Media to bring his stepfather’s magnificent works to life. CC.com: What qualities do you have that reflect the time spent with C.S. Lewis? Douglas: I think probably almost all the qualities I have reflect him. It’s more that my vices reflect the time I didn’t spend with him. He was a lot more patient than I am. I find it much more difficult in situations where people are annoying or boring me not to show that. Jack was very good at hiding that. CC.com: You’re heavily involved in the films as a co-producer, as well as determining which production company to go with. What skills and experiences do you have that prepared you for producing? Douglas: There are a whole lot of things. For one thing, I practically grew up in Narnia, more than anyone else, I suppose. I’ve been involved peripherally in television and show business for many years. I had a career in broadcasting in Australia, and was peripherally involved with film and so forth. So I had a little bit of understanding about how these things work. And then of course, I was involved, again peripherally, with...
