  Inside: This Week in Autos
Wouldn't you like to put the top down on a convertible and go for a drive this weekend? Well, if you're like most people you probably hesitated, the appeal of the idea conflicting with the fact of $4 gasoline. In the past year, sales of coupes and convertibles has fallen sharply, a fall that accelerated in recent months as the price of gas has climbed. As Jim Henry reports, so-called weekend cars may soon be a doomed species unless automakers learn how to create runabouts that can offer both fun and good gas mileage. Elsewhere this week Detroit bureau chief looked at GM's burn rate, saying that it needs to raise more capital if it wants to keep the wheels turning and columnist Maria Bartiromo's interviews Chrysler CEO Joseph Nardelli, who tells her that this is the toughest business environment he's ever seen. Last, we reviewed the Toyota Prius and found that the world's most fuel-efficient hybrid is as good—and boring—as ever. Enjoy.

Regular readers of the Auto Beat Blog may have noticed frequent comments from a man going by the name 'Noz.' His real name was Bruce Parkinson. He passed away early this week. I personally will miss his posts on our website and the email banter I used to have with him. closequote
