--Remembering Tim Russert--
It is with much sadness that we acknowledge the recent passing of NBC “Meet the Press” host, Tim Russert. A supporter of NBC News Archives on Demand brought to you in partnership with HotChalk, and a major advocate of education, Russert’s trusted voice and positive influence will be sorely missed across the nation. Perhaps not surprisingly, Russert’s background was in education. He was once a History teacher. Please join HotChalk CEO Edward Fields and the entire HotChalk community in honoring the memory of Tim Russert. See, Fields’ blog, “You Can’t Spin On This."

--Juneteenth Resources--
Juneteenth is an official holiday in several U.S. states and is growing in popularity both nationally and globally. Juneteenth is the celebration of the end of slavery; the last place to abolish slavery in the United States was Galveston, Texas, on June 19th, 1865, two-and-one-half years after President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation of January 1, 1863. There are several theories why emancipation came so much later to Galveston, and those theories are some of the topics that students will discover as they research the end of slavery in the Western Hemisphere. Take a look at our Juneteenth lesson plans and resources here.

--Featured Lesson Plans and Units--
We have a great batch of 25 new lessons this month; our thanks to all who submitted. Our first featured lesson comes from Camille Tuttrup. In this high school art and social studies lesson plan, students work with composition, color and contrast to portray ordinary objects in the manner of Wayne Thiebaub and the pop artists of the American 1960s. In the process, students gain a glimpse of 1960s consumerism and its influences on cultural artwork.
Do you find blood types A, B, AB, and O and who can donate to whom and who can receive what confusing? Well, here is a clever and easy way for students grades 5 to adult to learn the compatibility of the different blood types. This memorable demonstration, brought to us from Ryan Dooley, is a sure science or health class attention-grabber.
