MARK THE DAY
GO SKATEBOARDING DAY
The annual takeover known as Go Skateboarding Day is only one week away! On June 21, grab your board, grab your friends, and go skate!
G.S.D. is a global event that sees anyone and everyone that loves skateboarding hitting the streets for a day of ripping and/or cruising. There are sessions going down from Baltimore to Bangkokeverything from backyard pool sessions to major city street takeovers. With 13 million-plus street skateboarders in U.S. alone, you can image the scale of some of the events.
Come G.S.D., DC will certainly be doing its part. Joining Alien Workshop and Active, were once again hosting a large event at the Rob Dyrdek/DC Shoes Skate Plaza in Kettering, Ohio. Last year the event was huge with skaters showing up from all over the Midwest to shred the Plaza and skate with the DC and Workshop teams.
Check out goskateboardingday.org for a really long list of organized events in towns all over the place. Make it to one if you can
but whatever you do, go skateboarding on June 21st!

CONGRATULATIONS TO CAL SURF ON 20 YEARS!
While we were in Minneapolis for Damn Am, we made sure to meet up with the crew at Cal Surf to celebrate their 20th year in business. Thursday night we hosted a party for the shop (photos here), complete with music, beverages, and a really terrible chocolate cake that ended up on a face instead on inside mouths.
Cal Surf has been holding down the Twin Cities skate scene since way back. The shop is located Uptown next to Lake Calhoun, making it a natural stop before or after a skate session. There are several nearby parks for a good warm up session, and the shop is only a mile from Downtown and its wide variety of street spots: the basilica, the Rainbow Banks, the Farmers Market, and more.
Celebratory cake, sort of.
Since day one Cal Surf has represented all sides of skateboarding, from your tech street guy to your vert dog. The key is the shops defiance to cater to one style of skating or the trendy flavor of the day. From vert skaters like Justin Lynch, Dave Leroux, Monte Hilleman, and John Muldoon, to o.g.s like Mike Munzenrider and Elijah Collard to young guns Davis Torgerson, Jeff Bauman, Adam Dalen, Jake Smith, CJ Tambornino and Jan Jacobson, Cal Surf skaters have destroyed all terrain.
Whether its throwing an art show featuring skater-artists, holding a contest on a bench in front of the shop, hosting a game of SKATE in the street, or sponsoring backyard ramp jams, the Cal Surf staff has a true appreciation of skating.
So as some specialty stores and trendy shops come and go, Cal Surf remains and sets the tone for the Midwest skate scene. Congrats to Scott and the rest of the Cal Surf crew on holding it down for two decades!

BMX TEAM UPDATE
Mirra, warp speed manny in downtown Syracuse.
Here's your update on the current happenings and whereabouts of the guys on the pro BMX team:
Dave Mirra has just relocated his family back to his hometown of Syracuse, NY for the summer. Dave bought a new place and plans to use it as the home base for his travels between Dew Tour stops and rally races over the next 3 months. He's in Woodward, PA right now doing a demo for the youngsters arriving at camp, then hell leave for Dew Tour Baltimore in a week.
Allan Cooke has been spending time in Greenville, NC doing all sorts of things. "Last week we had a marathon day," said Allan. "We went for a road bike ride, rock climbed in the morning, then rode motocross, spent the afternoon wake skating, and when it had cooled off we rode bikes at The Unit." The busy guy also found time to help Nerf shoot a commercial in Texas before leaving for Dew Tour Baltimore.
Daniel Dhers is headed to England to compete in Park and Mini Ramp at NASS/Braun Cruzer Tour. He'll make it back from that in time to shred the ramps at home in Woodward, PA for a few days before heading to Dew Tour.
Corey Bohan has been MIA since Australia's Red Bull dirt pipe contest. At one point about a week after the comp his voicemail said he was on an expedition in Antarctica with National Geographic. Anything's possible with Corey. Chances are you'll find him digging and riding at Lonnie Paxton's house near his home in Corona, CA prior to heading to Baltimore to compete in dirt at Dew Tour.

Kagy, Las Vegas park session.
Edwin DeLaRosa has been riding everyday now that summer is in full swing in Brooklyn. He just got settled into his new place and is set to open his new bike shop in NYC soon. He's headed to Paris next week to film with his good friend and DC teammate Tom White.
Chris Doyle is back at home in Pittsburgh, PA digging and perfecting his local trails. Hes filming for two video parts this year, including Anthem II, the long overdue follow up to the legendary Anthem video from days of yore. Chris is going to lay low and relax with his girlfriend and spend a lot of time on his bike before driving into Baltimore
for Dew Tour stop one.
In the past month Chad Kagy has been to China and back twice and been on a Florida road trip. Chad is currently riding at Woodward after getting back from the Red Bull Experiment in NYC this past week. Chad will compete tomorrow in a small vert event as a warm up to Dew Tour Baltimore the following week.

PASTRANA, BLOCK DEBUT NEW SUBARU RALLY CARS LAST WEEKEND
Ken, last weekend at STPR in the '08 WRX STI.
Last weekend the DC Rally Team stepped up to all new rides
for Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally, Travis Pastrana and Ken Block piloted new open-class 2008 Subaru WRX STIs for the first time in competition.
Apart from a completely new body look compared to last years model (note the 5-door hatchback design and fresh lines), the new rally cars Travis and Ken are using have improved performance features. The new body style has a longer wheelbase, a wider track between wheels, and better weight distribution between the front and rear. Add in new double wishbone suspension on the rear and youve got a car that handles better, is more stable, and is able to push to higher speeds than its predecessors and competitors.
Travis.
If you havent seen the commercial for the new Subaru, check it out on YouTube by following this link. It features a bunch of Travis and Kens highlights as they push Subaru capabilities at X Games, rally events, and even a snowboarding park.
Despite the new whips, Travis and Ken (and many of the other drivers, for that matter) had a brutal rally at STPR and its narrow, fast roads. Travis listened to a stage note wrong, took a corner wide, and slammed into a dirt embankment, causing heavy damage to the brand new Subi. Ken messed up his suspension on a random rough stage on Day 1
though mechanics were able to repair the damage overnight; Ken was forced out of the points hunt for STPR.
Luckily for Travis and Ken, the tough finishes means nothing to the overall standings. Travis is still one point out of first, and Ken is a mere two points behind Travis in 3rd overall heading into New England Forest Rally on July 11. Stay tuned!
